fifty-nine: a pretty picture but the scenery is so loud

Waking up in the morning, I checked my phone to see if I had any texts from Brendon. I frowned to see that there was still none, but I had received one from Josh.

*Hey, wanna come over and hang out with me and Ty today?*

I replied immediately, seeing as I was probably not going to be hearing from Brendon at all that day either.

*Yeah, that'd be fun! I'll come over this afternoon, I've got a few things to do at home first*

He replied informing me that Tyler wouldn't be over until after 2 anyways, so I got started right away with cleaning around the house, a few chores my mother asked me to do that day. I took a shower when I finished dusting and sweeping through the living room and dining room, and looked at the time to see it was already nearly 2 so I decided to just go ahead and go over to Josh's house.

As I stepped outside, I turned to see a dark haired boy approaching my front door--my dark haired boy.

"Where are you going?" he asked, his eyebrows furrowing as he looked at me shutting the door and walking down the front porch steps.

I stopped and crossed my arms, glaring at him. "Well hello to you too, Brendon."

He stopped and sighed, reaching out and taking my arms, pulling me into a hug. I hesitated at first but couldn't resist his familiar scent filling my nose when I hadn't seen him or talked to him much in a few days.

"I was coming over to see if you wanted to spend some time with me today," he said softly, brushing a strand of hair from my face.

I opened my mouth to reply but was interrupted by a cheery voice saying, "Hey guys! Do you want to make cookies while we're waiting for Tyler, Charlie?"

I turned to see Josh had walked outside and approached to two of us, a big smile plastered on his face as he looked at the two of us standing in front of my porch. Brendon's face changed slightly and I immediately felt uncomfortable in the situation I was put into.

"Well, I was going to hang out with Tyler and Josh for a little while," I said somewhat quietly, turning back to Brendon, who looked like he was trying not to be annoyed.

"Charlie, you hung out with Josh yesterday," he said slowly.

"You can come hang out with us too, Brendon!" Josh smiled at him, waving us over to his house. "Come on, I have a really good recipe for peanut butter cookies and could use an extra pair of hands in the kitchen."

Brendon looked hesitant, but I reached out and took his hand, trying to give him my best "please, do this for me because you haven't significantly spoken to me in a few days" look. He finally let out a quiet sigh and followed Josh and I into his house.

I warned Josh as we got into his kitchen about Brendon's lack of ability to actually bake well at all, and Brendon was glad to just sit and watch anyways. Josh and I mixed the cookie dough, actually getting the first batch into the oven before Tyler showed up. Whenever I'd look back at Brendon, he would smile back at me, which I took as a good sign but still didn't know how I felt about having him and Josh in the same room now that I knew how he felt about him. I felt like there was just a disaster waiting to happen.

"Alright, something about baking always really makes me have to pee," Josh said, setting a timer for the oven. "Do not let these cookies burn. I will be right back." He left with a smile to both of us before he exited to the kitchen and disappeared somewhere down the hallway. I slowly approached Brendon sitting at on a stool in front of the island, and he reached for my hips and pulled me close to him.
