"Hey Charlie," I looked up from my locker to see Josh giving me a squinty smile, and I smiled back at him. He was always so full of joy and happiness, it was so nice and refreshing to be around.
"Hey," I replied, pulling out my books for the next few classes I had.
"So, Dallon talked to me and wanted me to fill in for his drummer while he's away in Europe," he said. "And I really want to be able to but I don't want to just leave you hanging with this project we're supposed to work on together."
"Not a problem," I said. "I was actually the one who suggested you to Dallon in the first place, and I'm over at Brendon's house a lot anyways so we'll figure it out easily."
"Really?" he asked. "You suggested me to Dallon?"
"Yeah," I nodded. "I mean, you're really good, and Dallon was a bit frantic because he found out last minute, and he 'needs Brendon and keyboard and Kenny on guitar' so I told him he should ask you."
"Charlie, that is so sweet of you," he said, putting his hand on his chest. "I'm flattered."
I smiled, Josh was so pure. I must protect him at all costs.
"Come on, let's get to class," I said, nudging his arm and he turned to walk with me to our first period class together, beginning to go on some ramble about something funny that Tyler did.
*Brendon's Point of View*
God fucking damn it, there he goes again, right when I was about to walk up to Charlie.
I watched as Josh approached Charlie, smiling at her and talking to her across the hallway. Of course Charlie was smiling and talking right back to him, she thinks the world of him. I really was happy that Charlie was making new friends, but sometimes I very selfishly wished that Josh had turned out to be some fuckboy that lived next to Charlie, not a sweet, genuine, smiley snowflake. If Josh were a fuckboy she'd be telling him off and bitching him out constantly, not smiling at him and fucking nudging his arm the way she does. Charlie said that I'm a cinnamon roll but this guy was the next level of mushy warm cinnamon roll. I looked like a Wal-Mart packaged apple pie that was loaded with disgusting chemicals and tasted like cardboard compared to Josh and it pissed me the fuck off.
Josh is definitely trying to steal her away from me. The way he is always smiling at me, saying, "Brendon can join us too!" he's just making her think that he's being inviting and fun, but I see right through it. He flirts with her all the time, and she is so fucking blind to it. I get that he's new to this school and just wants to be around someone that he's become friends with and all, but that's what Tyler should be for. Tyler is his best friend, not Charlie.
My jaw clenched as I watched him lean against the locker, talking to her. He put his hand over his chest and looked like Charlie just complimented him, she probably did. God damn it. He's going to think that she's genuinely interested in him. I know that Charlie would never lie to me and say that there's nothing going on between them if there was, but I can also see just by the way he acts around her that he has a crush on her. He's slowly working his way into her life, just like I did last year. And Charlie is being completely oblivious to it, just like she was with me last year until I had to practically spell it out for her.
I clenched my fists as I watched Charlie and Josh walk to class together and turned around to my locker, taking a deep breath and shutting it. I turned to see Dallon standing next to me, looking down at me very concerned.
"Are you okay, Brendon?"
"I'm fine," I huffed.
"Clearly you're not," he said. "Come on, what's wrong?"
