Chapter 5 - The Mellarks

I wake up to the sound of my phone vibrating on my bedside table. I rub my eyes and sit up, pulling the duvet up to my chest. I pick up my phone to see a text from Peeta.

FROM: PEETA<3 

Morning sunshine xx I have a surprise for you and I will pick you up at 11:30<3

I smile as I tap out a quick reply.

TO: PEETA<3

Morning Cinnamon toast<3 Sounds Interesting! xx

I laugh when typing out his name. I decided to call him cinnamon toast because he always smells like cinnamon and he bakes bread. Seems logical right?!?

I jump out of bed seeing the time. It was 11:00! I rush into the shower and quickly wash my hair and run back out and into my closet. I choose some skinny jeans and a loose tank top with my white converse seeing as it was getting colder because autumn was coming. I quickly dry my hair and put on some makeup so I look half decent . By the time I'm finished its 11:30 and just as I'm grabbing my bag the doorbell rings and I hear Glimmer answer the door. I grab my jacket and run downstairs to find them both in the kitchen. Peeta looks up at me and says.

"Cinnamon toast?" This makes me crack up as I explain the meaning behind it and by the time i'm finished there both laughing to. Peeta walks up to me and gives me light kiss before asking me if i'm ready to go. I say by to Glimmer who is busy texting Cato.

"So where are we going? Whats my surprise?" I ask Peeta, sitting next to him in his car. It always smell's like Cherry's and cinnamon and It's absolutely delicious.

"Well it wouldn't be a surprise anymore if I told you now would it?" He replies with a smirk.

I pout and cross my arms, pretending to be mad.

"Not gonna work Kat" He says pulling out of the driveway. He drives along the beach which makes me wonder as to what could be so special down here but then I see the sign. The sign that has a loaf bread and cake with the words Mellark bakery written on the front. I begin to get nervous as I realize that this is where we are going. I was going to meet his family. I'm sure I would love them if they were all like Peeta but I was scared that they wouldn't like me. Peeta must sense that I know and I'm nervous because he slows down and takes a hold of my hand. 

"It's gonna be fine Kat, they will love you and do you know why?" I shake my head. " because they asked me to bring you here after they saw the photo's from the beach, they are more excited than a kid on Christmas morning to see you." This calms me down a little but not much.

Peeta stops the car outside the bakery and even though its only 11:45 there's a long Que starting to develop inside the shop. I see a taller version of Peeta, the same ashy-blonde hair and body structure just older, working the till. Peeta takes my hand as he opens the door, making the bell ring. The man at the till looks up and smiles when he see's it's me and Peeta.

"Hey Dad, this Katniss" Peeta says, leading me behind the counter so I;m standing in front of him. 

"Nice to meet you Katniss, I'm Peeta's father, Steven." He goes to hug me but realizes that he is covered him flour. He laughs and extends his hand which he just wiped on a cloth. I shake it politely.

"It's lovely to meet you sir" 

"Please call me Steven" He says as he returns to serve the rest of the waiting customers.
