Chapter 14 - Initiation

KATNISS POV

"Peeta, Katniss? Get up!" Steven shouts from the door. I groan and look at the time. 7:30! I close my heavy eyelids but Peeta soon shakes me awake again. I have a short shower and wear some leggings and my marvel jumper seeing a I don't know what activity we will be doing today. I leave my hAir down but decide to take a hair band just incase. I finish getting ready and head downstairs to see all of the Mellarks say at the kitchen table eating breakfast. I sit next to Peeta and have a small bowl of cereal.

"So Katniss" Mrs Mellark starts " today's activity will prove if you really are worthy of a Mellark boy" she says. she is smiling and so is everybody else so I decide to take it lightly.

"We won't say what you will be doing but it will be a series of courses that you will be doing against one of us in each. If you Manage to either beat us or beat our times, You have won and completed the challenge" Steven explains.

"I'm up for it" I say finishing of my cereal.

"Uhh Mrs Mell-" she cuts me off

" Do call me Marie dear, it must be a mouthful to say Mrs Mellark all the time!"

"Thank you..Marie" I say back placing my bowl in the sink.

"Okay everybody into the cars, Myles you ride with me, your mum and Delly. Ryan you and Amy can ride together and then Peeta and Katniss you can ride together, okay?"

"Yep let's go Kat" Peeta says walking out the back door.

"You have the address don't you?!" His dad shouts from his car.

"Yeh!" Peeta shouts back.

I jump into the front and turn on the radio.

"So how do you think your gonna do?" Peeta asks me, turning out the driveway.

"Ummm not gonna lie I'm a little nervous" I say laughing a little.

"Why are you nervous Kat?" He asks

"I don't know incase I fail and your parents hate me and won't let me date you" I explain. Peeta laughs

"Kat this is just a little fun we like to have. We did the same with Amy and she failed all of her tests! Look at her and Ryan now. The worst that could happen is you lose but so what? It won't lessen the affection that I have for you or the affection that my parents have for you" He says looking at me momentarily. He takes my hand and squeezes it. This reassures me but only until we pull into an adventure course that I begin to panic again.

Peeta parks the car and we join up with the rest of his family.

"You ready Katniss?" Myles says cracking his knuckles.

"Lay off Myles" Peeta says before I can say anything rude back.

We walk through the woods for a shirt while following the pathway until we come to a clearing with a small shack.

An Instructor comes bounding out the shed to greet us and shakes hands with us all.

"Alright guys! So today I understand is the initiation course for Katniss I believe? Okay so Katniss" He says turning to me. " today you will be up against the Mellark family. You will be racing along side them whilst trying to beat their best scores, we will begin with the tree top course once you are all harnessed up." He explains before guiding us into the shed where racks if harnesses wait for us.

He leads us down a smaller path until we reach the beginning.

"Okay Myles you had the best score for this course so you will be versing Katniss on this round" He tightens his harness before taking him to the top of his Podium. Peeta gives me a quick kiss before letting me go. The instructor tightens my harness and takes me to the top if my podium.
