Chapter 30 - Friends?

KATNISS POV

Its Friday now and Peeta still hasn't spoken to me but after Monday, Finnick spoke to him and managed to get him to agree to sit with us.

"So, who's excited for spring break!" Glimmer squeals opposite me.

I groan into my bowl of salad as the rest of the group discuss the activities for the coming week.

"Okay so, on Monday we arrive at the cabin" Glimmer starts but I zone out. I know I won't have any fun being stuck in a cabin for a week with Peeta so there's really no point in listening.

"Kat!" Clove shouts, snapping her fingers in my face.

"What?" I ask still half in a daze.

"Were you listening to any of that?" Glimmer whines.

I didn't want to tell her no so I just looked down to my hands that were currently together under the table.

"It's fine guys I'll tell her later" Annie says, once again saving my sorry butt. I look up briefly and give her a thankful look before returning to my previous position.

"Hey Kat, are you worried about spring break?" Annie asks me walking out of English.

"I don't really know how I feel it about it I guess" I lie knowing full well that I'm not gonna like it.

"I know what your thinking Kat, I can see it on your face whenever someone even briefly mentions it" she giggles softly.

"I'll keep you company" she continues and I smile a little.

"It's ok Annie I'll figure something out." I say, walking out to Glimmers car.

We drive home in silence with just the radio on to fill the silence. We drop Cato and Peeta off seeing as Glimmer was their ride to school this morning.

When we arrive home I immediately go straight to my room. I still have to pack and work out my plan to deal with Peeta and still have a good time.

After hours of thinking and planning I decide on what I will do. I will make friends with the beast. We're in the same friendship group and partners in most classes. I can't avoid him forever, at some point we will have to talk to eachother and being stuck in a cabin with someone I hate isn't my idea of fun.

I grab my phone from my bed and sit on the edge of it. I scroll through my contacts. As I click on his name I make a mental note to change it back to something normal.

To: Cinnamon 💕

Hey can we talk?

Straight forward enough I think as I click send. I lay back on my bed waiting for his almost instant reply.

From: Cinnamon💕

Sure, I'll be there in 5 with Cato.

Great I sigh. Now I actually have to think of something to say.

True to his word the doorbell rings 5 minutes later and Cato comes barging Into the living room followed by Peeta.

"What was the point in knocking?" I ask walking into the Kitchen to find Glimmer.

"Catos her-" is a I had to say before she was gone.

"you saw him just yesterday" I mutter under my breath before I hear a familiar laugh. I turn around to see Peeta leaning on the doorway.

"Hey" he says softer this time.

"Hi" I whisper sipping my drink. I lean against the counter as leans opposite me on the island.

"You wanted to speak to me?" he asks and I nod still forming the right words in my head.

"I don't think we should hate eachother" I blurt out.

"I agree" he laughs slightly before I continue.

"I still don't like you for what you did but friends?" I ask, sticking out my hand.

"Look Kat about that-" he starts but I stop him.

"I don't wanna hear that right now because you'll probably just lie again" I tell him. " Look friends or not?" I ask him waving my hand around.

"Friends" he says shaking my hand. I ignored the butterflies in my stomach as he held my hand and walked out the kitchen into the living room to join Cato and glimmer.

Did they become Friends to quick? I don't know but next chapter will involve more of the other characters and not just a few!
