Josephine was asleep, her head rested on the car window. She stirred awake when she felt the car come to a stop. "Rise and shine, Josie." She heard Seth's voice as she opened her eyes. She looked out the window to see that they were parked in front of a lobby to some motel. She looked out the other side seeing a sign calling their home for the night, The Dew Drop Inn.
"I'm going to run in and get us a room, you two stay put." Seth ordered before leaving the car.
Josephine sighed when his door shut, knowing that this was going to be the longest few minutes of her life; being stuck in the car with the crazy brother.
"I'm not crazy," Richie spoke up as if he could read her mind once again.
"How's the hand?" Josephine asked ignoring the man's comment.
"Not any better thanks to you." Richie says as he rubs where the wound was.
Josephine didn't say anything else, not wanting to fight with Richie. She's heard enough bickering in the past hours, she didn't need more.
"You said something about your mother's boyfriends and you beating them up, what was that about?" Richie asked breaking the few moments of silence.
Josephine sighed giving in, "It was just me and my momma until I was four. Then she brought home, Mark," She clicked her tongue remembering the man who belonged to the name, "He wasn't the worst of the batch but he's still embedded in my brain, ever since I was five, when he used me to put out his cigarettes. A few months past then, there was a new guy. A new guy that would pick on me. And that went on until I was thirteen and had enough of it. I didn't want men using me for their amusement, punching bag, or cigarette tray. I trained myself and trained myself until I was able to knock them down and kick them out of the house."
Josephine was about to continue the story, but she saw Seth walk out of the lobby on her phone once again. "This Carlos guy seems like a real ass," Josephine says to Richie noticing how pissed Seth seemed.
"For once, I'll have to agree with you. I don't trust the guy either." Richie said watching his brother from the window.
Seth ended the call and got back in the car driving to the side of the motel. Josephine headed up to the room while Seth and Richie brought up the bank teller from the trunk.
Richie threw her on the couch once they arrived inthe assigned room. "That was a little unnecessary." Josephine commented. Richie didn't say anything he just joined his brother at the table in the room.
Josephine looked at the girl and felt bad for her. She had been in that small trunk for who knows how long. "Can I get you a glass of water or anything?" Josephine asked.
The girl shook her head looking back at Richie, who was staring her down much like he had done to Josephine before.
Seth pulled out a map of Texas on the table, finding where they were and pointing at it. "10 o'clock tonight, we cross, and miss," Seth turns to the bank teller in search for her name.
