You stared at your reflection in the mirror of the dressing room and sighed. You shook your head as you became agitated.
"(Y/N)! How is it?" your best friend, Luisa calls from outside.
"Um..." you pause and huff. "It's great...just not my style," you lie.
"Oh! Well hurry up! Let's find something that is your style!" her cheery voice resounds.
"Yeah, I'll be out in a minute," you say quickly.
You stare at your reflection once again and freeze. You were in a sleeveless black gown that emphasized and accentuated each curve of your body. You blinked back the tears as you freed yourself from the black dress.
Michael had informed you three months ago that a large dinner party would be organized by his producer after the release of his 'Dangerous' album to commemorate the event and celebrate the effort and hard work invested into the making of the masterpiece.
Hence, you were getting yourself organized and rushing around to find an appropriate dress a day before the whole event.
You were never one to be disorganized but this area of focus was one with which you were extremely sensitive about. You hated your body and you always wore loose fitted clothing to hide it. You always waved it off as being 'modest' when people asked you but that wasn't the entire truth. You never really liked the manner in which your curves were shaped and you'd tried everything to lose weight - but nothing worked.
No one had any idea that you felt this way - not even Michael. Michael always assumed you were just shy; which you were but...it was rather complicated to explain. You always hated attending elaborate functions because it required you to wear beautiful gowns - and quite frankly, it was difficult to find gowns that hid everything you wanted to hide.
You wiped away an unwelcome tear as you threw on your clothes and walked out of the dressing room, returning the dress to the salesperson.
"Okay girl!" Luisa exclaims as she hits your arm playfully, "let's go find something more your style," she giggles excitedly. "We are going to make sure Michael isn't focused tonight," Luisa says in a sing-song manner.
"Yeah," you say without enthusiasm and Luisa frowns.
"What's wrong girl?" she stares at you with concern.
"Nothing," you swallow and shake your head. "Let's go," you step forward but she stops you.
"What's wrong?" she insists and you begin to cry a little.
"I said nothing," you shrug helplessly.
"We are not leaving until you tell me what's wrong," she raises an eyebrow. "I'm going to kick up such a fuss in this place I swear-"
"Okay," I huff. "I hate myself,"
Luisa groans as she rolls her eyes. "(Y/N)! Again?" she shakes her head in disbelief. "We've already been through this! You're so beautiful...what's there to hate?" she scoffs.
"Everything," you look at the floor. "Especially my body..." you trail off.
"Your body?" Luisa squints in disbelief. "Girl...I think your body is amazing! Do you see me?" she gestures to herself. "I want to be like you! Come on!" she shakes my shoulders lightly.
"It's not amazing to me," you mutter.
"You've got curves in the right places (Y/N)!" she encourages and you shake your head.
