Melissa sighed, letting her shoulders fall slightly as she walked into her lonely apartment. The entire day seemed dull. The sky was grey, and the clouds appeared heavy - everything was dark.
Well, a day without Michael is a day lost.
Melissa rolled her eyes. Just as always, her conversation with Michael hadn't ended well, and here's why.
For the longest time, Michael had never quite acquired the art of attracting the right girls. You see, many of the females he'd dated were improper, money hungry, and insensitive. Women that did not make Michael happy.
Melissa, his lifelong best friend, had tried many a time to warn him of this issue - but each and every time she tried, Michael would brush her off. He'd never listen to her. It was a painful cycle of arguing and miscommunication.
See, Melissa loved Michael, and deeply. She loved him more than life itself, and she tried - oh she tried to make him see, but he never could. And the young lady was far too wary to tell him straight out.
Perhaps secret love is best.
Oh but who was she kidding? She wanted nothing more than to embrace Michael and tell him that everything was okay.
That she would be there for him for all time.
But that image seemed to be only an image in her head, never to be physically embodied.
With a tired sigh, Melissa dropped her handbag and fell onto the bed, subsequently letting out a groan.
All of a sudden, her telephone began to blare loudly, a rude interruption to her almost silent thoughts.
"Damn it," she mumbled, scrambling to her feet, grabbing the telephone receiver and answering. "Hello?"
"Mel?" Michael's voice made her straighten up. She hadn't expected him to call her, especially after the way he'd told her to leave. "Listen, I'm sorry for-"
"It's fine," Melissa cut him off. She wasn't in the mood for a long conversation about what was, and why it was. She was just too tired.
"I'll be meeting with Lana later today," he whispered.
"Why are you telling me?" she responded. "After all, my opinion doesn't matter to you,"
"It does, Mel...it really does," he sighed. "But you gotta understand that...I'm searching for love and-"
Melissa put the phone down. It was all too much. She began to sob shamelessly, shaking her head in despair.
One question ran through her mind amidst all the troubling doubts.
Why was love so hard?
