Chapter 15: The Influence You Have

After the talk Michael and Semaj had things seem to change. Michael seemed to be a little more relaxed around her and he wasn't as tensed and short answered like he was before. Michael didn't see the difference, he didn't feel as if his wall was falling but Semaj did a little bit and it softened her heart to know that she was able to change someone. Although she wasn't sure of what yet was to come.

"I'm gettin' sick of this nasty ass shit" Kearston says staring down at her food "this nasty ass food they stay tryna feed us but they won't even it tha shit"

"You been sayin' that sincce elementary school... get over it it! It ain't changin" Lina says rolling her eyes shrugging before biting into her chicken sandwich. "What's wrong witchu Maj?"

Semaj was in her own little world staring right down at her phone as Michael's message popped up on her screen.

Michael:
You wanna do a lil somethin tonite? Or do u gotta work?

Semaj:
What do you have in mind and no i don't have to work

Michael:
is that a yes or a no?

Semaj:
Yes its a yes but I want to know where we're going.

Michael:
Dont worry bout it just be ready after you get outta school

Semaj:
Where are we going? Do I need to dress up?? You can't just say be ready and not tell me where we're going. I need to know so I can dress appropriately.

Michael:
You even talk too much ova text. you know that? Just wear jeans a nice shirt a'ight? We ain't goin out wit the President or nothin so chill.

Semaj:
Okay...

"Semaj!" Lina yells hitting her upside her head making Semaj finally look at her.

"What?!" She asks rubbing the side of her head. "And that hurt! You could've just called my name if you wanted my attention."

Lina and Kearston glance at each other before smirking and looking back over to Semaj who sat there looking so out of it while she rubbed the side of her now throbbing head.

"We did call you!" Lina and Kearston say in unison.

"But you too busy lookin atcha phone to even know that we was tryna getcha attention." Lina says smirking and then quickly reaches over grabbing Semaj's phone that she had set down on the table after getting wacked by Lina. "Ohhh Hmmm... Michael"

"That's who got her eyes?" Kearston says peering over to the messages. "Look like y'all been textin non stop for a while now"

"Give me my phone back" Semaj says sighing holding her hand out to retrieve her phone.

"Oooh so you're going on a date wit him tonight? Where yaw goin?" Lina asks wiggling her eyebrows.

"It's not your business! It's not either of you's business. Gimme my phone back you two." Semaj was becoming slightly annoyed with both of her cousins.

"Nahhh." Kearston says shrugging her off and taking the phone out of Lina's hands going through the messages herself. "Yaw cute yaw cute" she says nodding her head.

"I still don't think that you and Mike is gon work out." Kearston says shrugging and sliding the phone back over to Semaj.

"I agree" Lina says nodding. "He ain't no good and he jus gon hurt you. Every girl he's eva been wit can atest to that. All he does is fuck 'em and leave 'em."
