"Uh she goes to school wit some girls I know. I jus' aint neva find out nothing 'bout other than what she look like. I jus' guessed" Michael covers quickly and shrugs. "But she is seventeen though, right?"
James, who was eyeing Michael heavily, nods his head. "Yes, she's seventeen."
"So like ain't she able to make her own decision and stuff? I mean she is damn-- I mean dang near grown so..."
Michael was trying to feel James out. He was dating Semaj and now here he finds out that the guy he had been talking shit about was her father. Not that Semaj would care but there was a huge possibility that the truth coming out, about them dating, to her parents, could damper and end their relationship.
"As long as she lives under my house and under my rules there will be no dating hood rats. My approval is needed for the guys that she dates and when you have kids someday Mr. Jackson you will soon find that out and be agreeing with me. Who your kids hang around starts to reflect on them and you only want positive things. Not negative. Plus, dating one of these thugs out here is only going to lead her to death, getting caught up, or early pregnancy."
Michael didn't like anything come out of James' mouth that moment. Michael felt as if he was bashing the 'hood rats' and putting all the same male 'hood rats' in the same category; the category of not having anything going good for them. That their only options were jail or death and in the case, in Michael's case, that wasn't going to be the outcome for him.
"But dont'chu think if you raise yo daughter from knowin right an wrong then she won't let whoever she datin influence her? If I hada daughter an I know i raised her not to give in to anything that she knew was wrong I would trust her to date who she wanted." Michael's eyes were squinted and his brain was trying to wrap around James' previous words.
"Look Mr. Jackson until you have a baby girl then you won't know, or understand, anything that I'm telling you right now. So, let's just get off of the subject and it's time for you to get to work. The telephone out there awaits you." James says gesturing to the door and Michael stands up.
He really wants to punch James repeatedly for what he felt were idiotic words coming out of his mouth and for allowing Janelle to kick Semaj out last night with nowhere to go, but he maintains his rightful demeanor and just walks out of the office trying to think of ways that this, him dating Semaj, could possibly go wrong and end the world he had started to become accustomed to.

Michael was sitting in the lounge trying to get his thoughts together. He wanted to know exactly what Willow's purposes were to show up at his house. Honestly, he just wanted to beat Willow down because he knew someway and somehow he had terrorized Semaj and Michael just wasn't having it. He was close to saying 'fuck it' and dropping everything and just going to find Willow himself but he knew Tasha was going to be on him like white on rice right along with the authorities if he dared to leave.
Sighing and running his hands over his face Michael looks up to see the group of African American males in their late twenties and early thirties walking inside and laughing but they all immediately stop when they see Michael sitting at one of the three tables.
"They just let anyone work here these days," one mumbles as he walks over to the table and sits down with the bag of greasy Penn Station in his hands.
Michael does his cynical chuckle and shakes his head, but doesn't say a word.
"Mat just shut up man." Another says walking over to the refrigerator.
"No, they're letting all these non-educated people in here and for what? Hey, what's your name?" Mat says pointing over at Michael, stopping the process of taking his food out of the bag. "Hey I'm talking to you." He adds on Michael clenches his jaw.
