"Yo Semaj!" Tucker yells right as I was about to walk out of the school building. I stop and move over to the side to let the other kids out while I wait for him to run over to me. Out of breath he wraps his arm around my shoulder pulling me through the other door. "Lemme holla atchu," he adds pulling me close under his arm.
When I look up, I see Michael leaning against the trunk of his parked Mercedes, talking to a few of the football players. I move from under Tucker's arm before Michael can look over and spot us. He sees Michael too and takes a step away from me, creating more space.
"What's going on, Tuck? What do you need?" I ask curiously.
Since we didn't have our baby any more there was no reason for us to really talk unless it was regarding school work and since Tucker was good in that area it made no sense for us to talk other than to say hi and bye.
"I wanna know if you wanna audition with me next week?" He asks, putting his hands in his sweat pockets. "You know since we can...and I thought since we was gon' basically get the parts anyway it would be some good practice." He shrugs his shoulders and I look around him, just to see Michael staring right over at us, but still engaged in conversation with the football players.
"Uh, I'm going to have to think about that," I reply and Tucker shakes his head.
"Cool, ima holla atchu later," he winks at me before running off to a group of friends that had already begin walking up the hill.
"Hey Semaj," the three football players says simultaneously when I walk over.
"Hey Josh, Calvin, and Spritz," I wave at them and they smile at me before dapping Michael and walking away.
"What was you and Tucker talkin' 'bout?" He asks cocking his eyebrow and pushing up off of his car.
"Wow, seven grueling hours in school with bad breath teachers, annoying and obnoxious students, and a distasteful lunch and I can't even get a 'hi' before you ask me why I was talking to someone?" I ask playfully walking to the driver's side and Michael wraps his arm around my waist moving me away from the door.
"I'm driving!" I exclaim holding my hand out for the key.
"Not even, I told you go an get yo permit you ain't finna be drivin my shit around illegally." He scoffs at me and squeezes between me and the car and then pushes me lightly out of the way.
"Michael my house isn't even that far!" I hold out my hand for the key again. "Please, it's good practice!"
"Semaj you ain't--" he stops paying attention when two girls walk pass.
"Hey Michael," they sing softly waving at him.
"Hey," he replies nodding his head up at them and I snatch the key out of his hand.
Before he can grab me up I run around the car and then across the parking lot, over to Lina who was talking to some of the girls in our drama class. I bump into her almost making her fall but she catches her balance and me at the same time. Michael is walking briskly over to us and I giggle like a little school girl while I watch him try to play it cool.
"Hey Michael," the three of them say.
"Yeah, hey Michael," I add on laughing.
"Lina, please tell yo cousin to give me my keys." Michael says and Lina looks over at me, then back at Michael.
"We'll talk to you later Lina," Christy, one of the girls, says before the two of them walk away.
"A'ight, and Maj give the man back his keys!" She folds her arms and I shake my head.
