Semaj's POV
I was impatiently waiting for Tucker at my locker. Any other time I would see him flirting with some of the cheerleaders near the cafeteria or immaturely horsing around with his boys, but this morning I hadn't seen him at all. I had to dodge all administration to keep from having to go to class. If they spotted me I would get a detention and that's the last thing I needed.
"Come on Tucker, where are you?" I mumble, tapping my foot against the hard tile floor while looking around.
"Behind'ja bae," he says making me jump and turn around.
He smiles at me and leans against the locker while holding the seat car handle tight in his hand. "Was you missin' me or somethin' bae?" He asks cocking his eyebrows and I roll my eyes while retrieving the seat car from his grasp.
"No and stop calling me 'bae', my name is Semaj."
"We a couple, so it's only right that I have that privilege."
"Okay," I sigh looking up at him. "Spell privilege and you can call me bae and I won't say anything about it."
He looks at me in disbelief, his eyes widening and he pushes off the locker, "Forreal?!"
His enthusiasm was evident in his voice. I nod my head, "Yes, honestly."
"How many tries I get?" He asks raising his eyes brows.
I hold up my pointer finger, "one."
"A'ight, shit. P-R-I-V-I-L-E-D-G-E, privilege," He was more than confident with his spelling and I almost thought he had me. "Bae," he wiggles his eyebrows at me and I chuckle while shaking my head and his face goes blank.
"Close, but not close enough. There is no 'D' in privilege, Tucker. It's P-R-I-V-I-L-E-G-E." His mouth drops and I walk away to go to my class that I was already ten minutes late for.
As always the school day was slow and somewhat productive. After three core classes: math, English, and physics, it was time for lunch. I hadn't seen Lina earlier at breakfast so I didn't think she was here. That is until I saw her sitting at our usual table, her head tilt back as she dumbed the remaining Flamin' Hot crumbs into her mouth.
"Where were you this morning?" I ask her sitting down.
"I hadda doctor's appointment... where the baby?" She asks looking around.
"Tucker," I reply rolling my eyes. "He said he wanted it-for whatever reason I don't know and I don't mind as long as he takes care of it." I explain and shrug my shoulders.
"Cool, aye, you seen yo cousin?" Lina asks raising her eyebrows.
"Kearston?" I ask and Lina nods. "Yeah, she's here," I mumble.
"Damn she still ain't said shit to ya?"
"No," I reply shaking my head. "We'll look at each other, but she won't say another word. You think she's still angry?"
"Shiiiiit, prolly," Lina shrugs. "Mom said that we don't need to be divided an shit, we cousins, we needa stay connected cuz ain't nobody gon have our backs like our own cousins and blah blah blah," Lina recites waving her hand. "You can talk to her ass, but I ain't, cuz if she pops off at the mouth imma swing and we both gon get suspended." She goes into her book bag pulling out a small bag of Munchies and another bag of Flamin' Hot. "Here," she throws me the bag of Munchies.
"Thanks," I mumble while opening them and look over to where Kearston usually sits and then I see her and her new group of friends walk in. We make direct eye contact and I attempt to smile at her, but she just rolls her eyes and keeps walking down the ramp to the second level of the cafeteria.
