The elevator dinged the doors opening allowing Tasha to exit off and walk through the propped open double glass doors. She wore a navy blue pants suit and her hair was down and bumped at the ends making her look like the professional woman she was. She walks up to the chestnut colored desk where the Caucasian woman sits perked up and ready for a work day.
"I have a meeting with James Calhoun today." She says tucking her bag under her arm.
"Oh yes. Mrs. Tasha Fluellen?" The girl asks and Tasha nods. "Mr. Calhoun is actually waiting for you in his office. You can go on back." She says and Tasha nods making her way to the large oak wood door and then inside.
"Mmhm" James hums. "That sounds perfect. My wife will be happy to hear that." He turns around in his large executive chair and smiles when his eyes land on Tasha's. "That's great Alex. Thank you. Uh huh. Okay. Bye." He hangs up the phone and stands up to great his long term friend.
"Tasha, Tasha, Tasha, you look good." He says nodding his head.
"You don't look bad yourself. How old are you now?" She says as he comes around the desk to hug her.
"Thirty nine." He replies and he releases her allowing Tasha to look him up and down. "Take a seat, take a seat" he says gesturing to one of the chairs and goes back around to sit down in his.
"Sorry if it seems a little hectic. I'm just not getting into town." He explains trying to straighten up his desk. "Matter of fact Janelle and I are both getting back in town."
"I remember you telling me that you'd be in back and forth between California and New York for cases that you and her were both working on. How is she by the way?" Tasha asks crossing her legs over one another.
"She's great, we both are actually." He answers leaning back in the chair. "She's expecting."
Tasha's eyes widen. "She's expecting?"
"Yes." James replies nodding. "It was pretty much the reason we came back. That and she was missing our two girls. I won't lie, so was I."
Tasha then felt confused. She didn't remember James have any kids the last time they talked to each other. It had been a while, over ten years, since she had last saw him and actually had a conversation with him but she could sense that something just wasn't completely right.
"You guys have two girls now? I thought you just had one..." Tasha asks squinting her eyes a little.
"Well when you and I last saw each other I did only have one. About a year or two after you transferred school, Janelle was pregnant again, giving us two girls. Semaj and Simone." James says bringing out his wallet to show the picture of the two girls that Tasha was more than familiar with.
"Wow the oldest one has gotten so big..." She says putting on a facade.
She wasn't sure how she would explain knowing Semaj without mentioning the fact that she was dating Michael. Tasha knew James. She knew him very well and knew that the minute he found about Michael and Semaj he would blow and demand that Michael never see Semaj again. Not wanting that to happen, considering how Michael has improved since being with her, Tasha decides to keep quiet. Only for now.
"Yeah" James say sighing putting the picture back in his wallet. "She's going to be eighteen in about a week and on top of that she's a senior in high school. It's a bittersweet moment for Janelle and I both right now which is why we agreed that she doesn't do any more traveling and that she works only in the state."
"That's a good compromise." Tasha forces a chuckle while nodding her head.
"Yeah, but okay, let's get down to business."
