~ Caroline's Pov ~

Klaus and I pull apart when someone walks through the front door, we turn and see Elijah in his tailored suit and neatly styled hair. "Niklaus, Ms Forbes? I am confused, what are you doing here?"

"We are trapped dear brother. The Bennett witch cast her little spell and trapped me in here. Caroline showed up to see the doppelgänger, came into the room, got trapped and here we are." Obvious confusion is etched into Elijah's usually composed face. He raises an eyebrow then steps into the room. "NO ELIJAH!" Klaus and I warn in unison, but its too late. Elijah stands in the living room then takes a step back out to the hallway. Klaus and I look at each other in confusion, then approach the hallway. When we try to leave we're pushed back into the living room, we wait a moment then try again with the same effect. "What is this Elijah?"

"It appears to be keeping Ms Forbes and yourself trapped in here, but not anyone else...I wonder, why you two?" Elijah lifts his hand to his lips in deep thought. "Why did you come here to begin with? And where is Elena?"

"I came here because..." Klaus can't say the words, he turns and walks further into the room.

"He came to stop Elena and Jeremy from...from killing Kol." A look of shock appears on Elijah's face. "But..he was too late...Jeremy had a white oak stake." My words shake at the end, I gasp to stop myself from crying. Elijah stares at me, motionless, tears welling in his eyes. He turns his attention to the kitchen, the tears that threatened to spill now fall freely. "I am so sorry..to both of you, the amount of damage we've caused...I can only apologise for my own actions, not theirs. This is all for Elena, they just want Silas and they were willing to go to the utmost extremes to get to him...I'm so sorry." I hang my head in shame. Elijah wipes his tears, a look of surprise on his face; he clearly wasn't expecting an apology.

"You are forgiven Caroline. You had no part in my brother's murder, as for the plots against my family you have participated in...its not my place to forgive you." He nods in Klaus' direction, telling me It's his decision. "As for your friends, you must understand that I cannot forgive nor will I forget." I nod, even I understand that this is unforgivable. I walk over to the couch and take a seat next to Klaus, I can see the hurt and anger in his expression.

"Klaus." He turns his attention to me, tears brim his eyes. His features as strong and dominating as ever, but behind the strong facade he's got on I can see a hurt boy who just wants his brother back. "Its okay to cry Klaus..." The moment those words leave my lips Klaus rests his forehead on my shoulder, his breath quivering; he's trying so hard to keep it in. "Its okay." I wrap my arms around him and hold him close to my body, and finally after all the struggling to keep his tears at bay; they fall freely and splash my jacket, but I don't care.

~ Klaus' Pov ~

I wrap my arms around Caroline's waist and keep my face buried in her shoulder as shushes me and strokes my hair whispering words of kindness to me. "Its okay..it's going to be okay, I'm here and I'm not going anywhere. I promise you Klaus." Her words play over and over in my head as I calm to the sound of her gentle voice. We reluctantly pull apart as we realise Elijah is still in the room. "Is there nothing that can be done? A witch? Anything?" Caroline asks looking between Elijah and I.

"There is one person-"

"She's been dead for almost a century brother." I cut off Elijah and his stupidity.

"Or she has been in hiding." He looks away from me.

"What do you know." I stand and approach the barrier.

"She lives."

"Find her." In the blink of an eye Elijah is gone, leaving only Caroline and I.
