Chapter 40 - The greater bond

Chapter 39: But days later, he accompanied Kelsey to go fetch Nathan at school. Stood near the car, he smiled as he watched Nathan run to them but let out a sigh when he saw the boy run to hug Kelsey. But he wasn't jealous. No. Not jealous at all. Tom and jealous? No way!

Tom's whole life revolved around Nathan. From childhood itself, he loved, cared for and protected the boy from the little one came in this world. Each time they got separated, they both felt their heart long for each other and whenever Tom managed to get the boy back, he vowed not to let anyone take the boy away from him. He was ready to fight anyone who'd come between him and his little brother. But how can he fight the love of his life? How can he fight Kelsey?

No matter how much Tom tried to assure himself that he wasn't jealous of the closeness between Nathan and Kelsey, it was a lie. Tom himself had been desperate to get Nathan and Kelsey to bond and now that they finally did, Tom couldn't help but feel left out. It was a stupid thing. Tom knew he shouldn't feel jealous of Kelsey's bond with Nathan. Technically speaking, his bond with Nathan was much bigger than that. They were related by blood but Tom couldn't help but be wary of that mother-son bond between Kelsey and Nathan. Since, Nathan's bond with his own mother took quite some blows, Tom could feel that Nathan was getting far too attached to Kelsey.

Tom was angry at himself for being jealous but he just couldn't help it. He did a lot for his brother, sacrificed a lot for the little one and he just couldn't bear that someone else could become more important than him for his brother. But what he didn't realize was that Kelsey and Nathan were taking a distance from Tom for Tom himself. Since the man had gotten back to his band stuffs, Nathan didn't want to bother the man with his own troubles so he turned to Kelsey who readily helped Nathan out. Granted it wasn't the same as his own brother's comfort but Kelsey wasn't half bad.

Since the past few days, Tom had been working till late for their upcoming album and hadn't quite felt how secretive Nathan and Kelsey were being. But now that he had a few days off now, he could feel that the two had taken quite a bit of distance from him. They'd be talking in hush tones. They'd be spending time together and away from him. In fact, they'd even go shopping and go out without him. When Tom interrupted them, Kelsey had stopped him from joining in by saying, "It's our mom-son time. You're not allowed." Even the boys had winced at that as Max patted Tom's back and Siva and Jay shared a sad smile with Tom.

Even Max, Jay and Siva had no idea what Kelsey and Nathan were up to. "Maybe it's just that Kelsey wants to be a mum for Nath" Jay said. "Yeah, it's a good thing, man. Earlier Nath wouldn't even share you with her. Now he is bonding with her." Siva added. "Don't think too much about it Tom. It will be okay" Max assured the man. Tom shrugged trying not to be too affected with all what's going on.

Nathan did feel that something was wrong with Tom. He felt that Tom was upset with him for some reason. But little Nath thought he was doing his brother a favor by not burdening him with his own troubles. Also lately, Kelsey had become a motherly figure in his life. Nathan found himself getting attached to the woman. But Nathan knew that Kelsey couldn't take the place of Tom in his life. He expected that Tom would know that.

This kept going on for quite some time and finally Tom decided to just accept it. Maybe Nathan had found a mother in Kelsey. Maybe a mother's bond was bigger than that of brother's.
