When nights don't seem too terrible anymore,

Maybe then, the stars won't seem so cliche

I stretched my arm over to the nightstand, retrieved my phone, and checked the time. I sighed.

1:27; I don't think I'm going to sleep any time soon.

I flipped the pillow to the cool side, kicking the sheets draped over my body to try and get some sort of draft to reach my legs. After wrestling with the sweaty linens for a bit, I gave up, taking the covers off all together. It was a hot summer night, one where you wanted to go to bed in nothing but your underwear, covering yourself with only a thin sheet. That mixed with my mind's reluctance to fall asleep as it was enough to make me give up on even trying to drift off for a few moments.

I picked up my phone again, then sent out a text to the only one who just might be awake at this time of night.

Me: you still awake?

stranger: yeah, and i think its safe to assume that you are too?

Me: unfortunately, yes. It's just too hot to sleep.

stranger: same

Me: I just want a breeze to cool me off, but U'm stuck on these warm blankets

Me: *I'm

stranger: i just wanna drive around with the windows down

Me: you can though. I don't have a car.

I glanced up at the time again. 1:40.

stranger: im craving some tacobell

stranger: yeah i think ill get some tacobell

Me: :( now I want T.B., thx a lot for making me hungry

stranger: then come with

Me: I'd have to ask my grandpa & he's asleep. Besides, it's late.

stranger: just take ur phone in case he calls. ill get you home before 3:00

stranger: itll be an insomniac party

Me: you mean a night club?

stranger: yeah, ok

I set down the phone for a moment, tear off a piece of paper from some unused notebook I have stored away, and write a quick note that says going to taco bell to get some food, be right back. As I finish up writing it, my phone buzzes again. I set it down on the nightstand, then check the messages that came in.

stranger: so yes, no, maybe so?

Me: sure

Hey, it's Taco Bell. Why not get cheap diarrhea?

The cashier's sunken eyes bore blankly into Cooper's own as he gave him our orders. "And will that be everything?" he mumbled, punching things into the cash register. Cooper nodded, blinking in an attempt to not fall asleep right then and there. "Alright, I'll have that out for you two party animals in a second."

Cooper looked down at his own attire and then to mine. "In sweats and T-shirts? Yes, we're totally party animals."

I snorted. "Try again."
