(3rd Person POV)
Joey is a really happy and cheerful type of boy, he has what some would consider an obsession with bright colors. He usually wears yellow in some part of his outfit, whether it be in his hair, part of his belt, or a necklace. But he refuses to wear yellow as a shirt or pants. However, no one knew the true reason as to why he wears these colors, no one has taken the time out to have a conversation with the colorful boy. That was until Daniel Preda moved to town. Unlike Joey, Daniel wears only dark colors with a lot of tattoos. Everyone in the school was once interested in the tattoo covered boy but soon begun to judge him. Joey, on the other hand, was fascinated by this boy. Wanting to get to know him, Joey would sit next to him in class and ask him questions. Sometimes Daniel wouldn't respond, other times he would answer him with 'yes' or 'no'.
Daniel was surprised, why was this boy beside him trying to converse with him? He's the complete opposite of Daniel, he is decked out with bright colors whereas Daniel is covered in black and tattoos. After a few days of Joey trying to talk to Daniel, Daniel decided to have a conversation with the colorful boy. Soon, Daniel had come to the realization that Joey was not that different from him. Sure he wears bright colors, but his personality wasn't as bright as the clothing.
No one knows why Joey wears bright colors. Until Daniel came to school. He and Joey became quick friends, letting each other in really quick. They spent afternoons in the library or secluded areas in the park, Joey never asked why, but that was until he learned Daniel's life story, and realized how similar their stories were.
Daniel was saddened by Joey's story. Someone like him should never have to go through the things he does. While they were in their little world in the back of the library, Joey asked Daniel if he would promise never to tell a soul about what he was about to say. Without hesitation, Daniel promised. Joey sighed before beginning. "I live in a small one bedroom house with just my parents. I used to have siblings, but they moved away. Or at least, that's what I've been told. Ever since my siblings left, my parents have come after me. Sometimes they'd scream that I should've left with my siblings so that they don't have to deal with idiotic kids. Other times they would beat the life out of me" to prove his point, Joey pulled up his sleeves, showing bruises and cuts. Daniel's eyes widened, his arms look identical if they weren't covered with tattoos. "I'm only happy during school because this is the only place I can get away from my abusive home. I wear bright colors because if I wore normal t-shirts, my bruises would pop out. My parents come home high, coming after me like bulls. Their favorite way of torture was kicking since they can do more damage that way. All I want to do is get away from their pain, but alas, I'm stuck for two more months."
Joey's eyes filled with tears, looking down at his feet, afraid of Daniel's judgment. "Joey, I would never judge you. Because that would make me a hypocrite" Joey looked up at him "w-what?" "My parents are just like yours, except they don't come home high, they come home drunk. My siblings let them do whatever while they play video games. I'm covered in tattoos to cover the bruises my parents leave." The two boys look at each other, tears falling from both of their eyes. They both are shocked. "Joey?" "Yeah Daniel?" Daniel starts to stutter "d-do y-you want to see my favorite tattoo?" Joey nods "sure" rolling up his sleeves, Daniel points to a heart attached to waves that you see on a heart monitor. "Why is this one your favorite?" Daniel shrugs "it has the most meaning I guess" Joey's eyes stick to the tattoo on Daniel's arm "I can see what you mean, it's amazing" nodding, Daniel looks at his watch. A smile forms on his face "hey, do you want to come over? My parents are out" Joey smiles "sure."
As they were walking, an idea pops into Joey's head. "Hey Daniel, I'll meet you at your house, I just remembered I have to go do something" Daniel nods and writes down his address. As Joey was driving, the idea became scarier but more necessary. "Hey man, what can I help you with?" Joey points at a drawing on the book on the front desk "I'd like this one" nodding, the employee ushers him into the back room. "Are you sure?" Joey nods as he hears the buzzing come toward him and he whispers "all for Daniel."
