(Joey's POV)

We were inseparable. Nothing could get to us. No one could break us. Life was perfect for us.

But life likes to throw many curveballs. And sometimes, they hit you hard.

.....Let me start at the beginning.

I met Daniel when I first began school. Being the antisocial idiot that I was, I sat in my designated chair and...never left it. The teachers would try to get me to play with the other children, but nothing worked. I just sat there, breaking crayons and scribbling with the pieces. Until Daniel came over. He saw me attempting a rainbow with the wrong color crayons and sat beside me, taking the proper colors and making his own next to mine. "My name is Joey, what's yours?" He doesn't say anything, just continues to color. Not knowing what else to say or do, I join him in the coloring session. Days go by before I got him to speak. He introduces himself, calling himself "Danny Preda."

The teachers found mine and Daniel's newfound friendship absolutely adorable. The two introverts are friends. To them it was cute. To us, it was just a friendship.

In elementary school, we were lucky enough to be in the same class every year. We stuck to each other like glue. We didn't listen to the teachers when they tried to keep us apart with their assigned seating. Elementary school teachers were different, they wanted us to make other friends. But when you're a very shy introverted child who was surprised to gain a single friend, it's impossible to get others. Daniel and I were perfectly happy with the friendship we already had, there was no reason to mess with it.

The playground appeared fun, but nothing could top the giant oak tree Daniel and I discovered while wandering outside the allowed play-time space. Teachers never looked past the playscape so Daniel and I were able to walk away undetected. Under the oak tree, we'd sit spilling childish secrets and giggling over nothing. Sometimes finding caterpillars making their way down the tree before we lead them onto our palms. Daniel once had three caterpillars crawling on his arms, but I was too chicken to allow more than one.

He still teases me about that to this day.

Our friendship did nothing but blossom as our school years seemed to fly by. However, in middle school, there was an intruder. Some kid wanted to be friends with Daniel and I, forcing himself into our conversations and activities. If Daniel and I planned to hang out after school, they'd invite themselves and barge into our house, having followed us to the house. I swear this boy had a massive crush on Daniel but never said anything. He would always choose to hang out with Daniel the most, always coming to his house and forgetting that I was standing next to Daniel trying to talk to him. This boy was hated by Daniel, who was already uncomfortable with talking to anyone who wasn't me or his parents. Let alone a creeper who found his address from following his parents' car when they dropped us off. Daniel didn't like how he treated me, his only friend. He would make that known to the other boy, snapping at him every chance he got. But the kid wouldn't take the hint.

Lucky for us, the boy moved on to another group of kids once high school hit. However, that wasn't the last we heard of him. For he became the one who started the rumors.
