(Joey's POV)

Oh, how I love the season of fall. All the colors, the warm air leftover from summer, and everyone getting ready for Halloween. While everyone around me is in line at Starbucks, getting their Pumpkin Spice lattes, I'm at the park under my favorite willow tree. Opening my sketchbook, I look up at the world around me, trying to find someone or something to sketch. As my eyes are scanning the park, I notice him. A boy sitting on the bench all the way on the other side of the park. His raven black hair blows in the wind, eyes trained on the book in front of him. I couldn't keep my eyes off of him, my hand sketching absentmindedly.

He doesn't notice me staring at him until I stand up. A branch breaking gives me away and his green eyes lock with mine. I can feel my cheeks heating up as he too stands and walks over, a smile growing on his face. "Well, hello." My social anxiety kicks into high gear and I slowly start to back away nervously "oh, no don't back away. I'm sorry if I scared you, I just saw you looking at me and I thought I should introduce myself to the cute boy under the willow tree." Damn, he's good. "Um, well. I noticed you sitting there and I um, I thought I would..." I show him the drawing I did of him, blushing harshly. "Oh wow, this is amazing. You're amazing at drawing, although, I wish you were closer to me while drawing. That way you could get a better sketch of my 'perfect features.' Now, come on, let's go sit and people watch." He reaches out a hand, but I hesitate. "I don't know your name, how do I know you're not going to lead me somewhere to murder me."

The boy laughs "because, I think you are absolutely adorable and I would rather go on a date with you than murder you." My cheeks heat up, a smile on my face. "Can I have your name at least?" "Oh, right. It's Daniel, Daniel Preda." He holds out a hand to shake, and I happily oblige. "So, will you come with me to get some coffee?" Checking my phone, I frown at the time shown to me. "I'd love to, but I have to go. I'm sorry." Daniel frowns "all right then, can I have your number?" I nod happily, taking his phone from him.

I lay on my bed, legs kicking in the air as I text the cute boy I met at the park. We're playing twenty questions, and with every answer he gives, I like him more and more. A knock at my door startles me "Joey? What is making you so happy?" I look up at my mom with a smile "I met a boy today!" Her smile falters "oh? Where?" "The park! He was sitting across from me, I was sketching him in my book and he saw me looking at him." "And how old is he?" "My age, I promise. I wouldn't be talking to him if he was much older or younger." Her smile returns "well, good. Now, get ready for bed."

I didn't sleep a wink that night, all I did was text Daniel. We went from 20 questions to flirting. And I'm just falling for him more and more at this point. This boy is a charmer, and I just hope to God that he isn't a player. He's too smooth to be true.

I searched all the hallways during school, hoping to see the beautiful familiar face of Daniel Preda. No such luck. "Joey! I've been looking for you all day!" Turning around, I see Daniel smiling and holding his arms out "I can't believe I never saw you around here before!" He pulls me in for a tight hug, and I feel safe in his arms for some reason. "So, do you want to go on that date tonight?" "Of course I do! I'm sorry again about having to leave last night. It's a curfew, you know." Looking at me, Daniel whispers "there's just something that's drawing me to you. I feel like I've known you all my life. Is that weird?" I shake my head "no. Because I feel the same." I feel him get closer but the bell rings, shaking us out of our moment. "Damn it, I'm gonna be late. I'll text you, and I'll be waiting at the front door for you after school."

The whole school day, I couldn't stop thinking about my moment with Daniel. I can't believe I almost kissed him. I've known him for one day, but it feels like I've known him longer. "Joeyyyy? Joey? Earth to Joey!" My friend snaps her fingers in front of me and I break out of my thoughts "Sorry, sorry. What's up?" Madelaine laughs "what's got you all twisted up in thought?" I can feel an involuntary smile forming on my face "I met a boy yesterday. And we're going on a date tonight." She smiles "ooh! I'm so happy for you, Joey! But, you must be careful. He may not be as perfect and as charming." "Yes, yes I know. I'm keeping my heart protected. I've thought about him being imperfect. I mean, he does seem too good to be true. He's been super flirty and he's good with his words."
