9. You're My Secret (Fluff)

(Daniel's POV)

Maybe I'm just imagining it. I mean, there's no way Joey Graceffa is looking at me with those heart eyes. He has to be looking past me. Looking back at him, he winks at me. Oh my God "Who are you looking at Daniel?" My friend Hope shakes my shoulder, snapping me out of my daze. "My boyfriend, who else?" Smiling, Hope shakes her head "you two are not officially dating, well...as far as the school is concerned." She's right, she's absolutely right. Joey told me that he doesn't want us to be exclusive just yet. "I can still call him that around you though right?"

I'm actually falling in love with him. I'm falling in love with Joey. Sure, I used to be fine with hiding us, but that was until he showed up. Joey's best friend Kai. Every chance he gets, he flirts with Joey. Since he doesn't know Joey's taken, he clings to him. I can't do anything about it. I'm just the shy boy who's in love with the popular and friendly boy who's still in the closet. Joey doesn't even try to stop Kai, he just allows it to happen. He looks like he enjoys it. All I want to do is run up to them, push Kai off of Joey and kiss Joey. But alas, I cannot.

"Why can't you just ask him if you guys could be exclusive? Or at least tell him that Kai is bothering you? I mean, he's a great guy Daniel. He'll understand." I frown, hitting the back of my head against my locker repeatedly "what if he breaks up with me? There's always a possibility that he's straight. I mean, he isn't out." Hope looks at me sadly "talk to him, Daniel. Just talk to him." The final bell rings, Hope pats me on the shoulder before going out to her car. The school is completely empty within ten minutes and I'm starting to believe Joey has stood me up. My suspicion is justified when my phone dings with a text from Joey. "Hey, sorry babe. Kai wanted to hang out. I'll see you later tonight?" Are you kidding me?

Of course, Joey would blow me off for Kai. "What time are you free tonight?" I walked to my car, keeping my eyes on my phone. "I'll try getting away around five. Kai is a very clingy friend ;)" Kai better not try anything. Then again, if he does anything, it's not like I can do anything about it. Joey and I are straight as far as the school kids are concerned. "My parents are out of the house all night." Usually, when you tell your boyfriend that your parents won't be around, they'll do anything to get to you. I should've known Joey's not one of them. "Nice! I'll be over at five, I gotta go babe!" Leaving the chat with Joey, I call Hope.

Hope, Alx, Gabbie, Shane, Garrett, and Nikita meet up with me at my house. All of them know about Joey and I, all of them understand why I'm upset with Joey and Kai. "What should I do? He doesn't see anything wrong with Kai! He doesn't see his blatant display of flirtation and the way he drapes himself over him...calling him pet names! Calling my boyfriend names that I should be calling him!" Nikita rubs my shoulders as I rub my hands over my face "I don't understand! Why am I putting my heart and soul into a relationship with someone who is keeping me hidden from everyone in his life!" I feel the couch dip beside me as all my friends sit beside me, rubbing my back. "What are you going to do?" I shake my head "I have to break up with Joey."

I get a text from Joey at 4:45, he's almost here. All of my friends already left, having convinced me that this is the right thing to do. By the time Joey arrived, he entered while texting someone. I already know who it is. "Earth to Joey!" I said with a groan. Looking up from his phone, Joey smiles "sorry! Let me send this text then my attention is all yours!" "Well when you're done, I'll be out back." Not acknowledging what I said, Joey continues texting as I walk out.

"Daniel?" "Backyard!" I knew he'd forget where I was. Soon, I'm joined by my "boyfriend." Joey walks up to me and attempts to kiss me but I dodge it. "Why did you ask me over?" Joey leans against the railing, looking at me with a smile. "I want to break up." I cringe at my own words, I absolutely hate break ups. "W-What?" "Oh don't act so surprised Joey! It's not like you've actually spent enough time with me to get attached. You've been spending so much time with Kai that I'm surprised you remember me! Goddammit Joey, it fucking kills me whenever you blow me off for Kai! Allowing him to call you cute little nicknames and attach himself to you! It seems like you and Kai are boyfriends rather than you and I! I'm done being your secret, I'm done being second best, I'm done with this game you've trapped me in!"
