*Steve's POV*
I couldn't stand myself. How could I be so stupid to mess up like this? I hurt Kristen. And she needed me.
Carrying a bundle of roses, I climbed up the tree that led to her window. All I cared about was fixing this and being there for her.
Before knocking on her window, I glanced in and saw her mother sitting on Kristen's bed in tears.
"Oh no." I said to myself.
Quickly, I climbed down and ran to their front door. I knocked, panicking.
Her father answered, the look of distress on his face.
"Something's wrong. What happened?" I asked, out of breath.
-----
Kristen's father had invited me in. Her mother boiled some water and made us each a cup of tea.
I sat at a circular kitchen table with her mother and father. We all sipped the warm cups of tea.
"The last I'd seen her was this afternoon. She stopped by for a minute then headed home." I admitted.
"I don't know where she can be. It's nearly three in the morning." Her mother cried.
I ran my fingers through my hair.
I didn't want to say aloud what I was thinking.
"What if it took her again?" She took the words right out of my mouth.
"Should we tell Hopper?" I asked.
"I'm as good a help as Hopper. I'm going to the lab." Her father stated, grabbing his coat and leaving the house.
Kristen's mother and I sat quietly, just listening the the roar of the car engine.
"It's my fault." She spoke quietly. "It's my fault she's missing. I upset her." She buried her head in her hands.
I slid my chair next to her and placed my hand on her shoulder. "Don't blame yourself."
We sat there and just waited for anything to happen.
