Jonathan and I drove all over town. There was no sight of Nancy or Mike. We stopped at Dustin's house, as well as Lucas'. Neither of them had seen or heard from them either. The two boys insisted on joining us on this rescue mission for their friend.
Now, I sat in the passenger seat, while Jonathan drove, and Lucas and Dustin sat in the backseat.
Without having a clue where to go next, we stopped back at Nancy and Mike's house. A woman at the next house was outside walking toward her car.
"I'll be right back." I told the boys. I had an idea.
Quickly, I exited the car and walked to the woman, who was carrying a piece of luggage. "Excuse me," I began. "I have a question."
She stopped beside her car. "Yes?"
"Did you see Nancy, the girl from next door? My friend and I are looking for her...We had plans." I explained trying not to seem worried.
Her face dropped and she looked fearful. Earlier today, a van was parked outside. I don't know who it was or where they were going. They took her." She sounded horrified. "They took her brother too."
I gasped.
"I'm afraid they'll come back. That's why I'm leaving town. I packed up my car the moment the left." Her hands shook.
I took a deep breath. "Thank you, miss."
I turned around and ran back to the car. "The lab, go to the lab now."
Jonathan put the car into drive and sped away.
"What'd she say?" Lucas and Dustin were practically jumping out of their seats.
"A van came and took them. Someone must've realized Mike was gone. They wanted him back."
"How do you know for sure it was the lab?" Lucas asked.
"Well who else would it be?" I responded.
"Oh shit." Dustin sat back in his seat. "Operation Rescue Mike and Nancy is in effect."
