Today could be the last day of the world. It was a terrifying thought.
I woke up beside Steve. He slept peacefully. I wished I felt as calm as he appeared.
He stirred a bit and I pulled the covers up slightly to warm his body. He lay on his stomach, one arm under his pillow and one arm over it. His eyes slowly flickered open and peered at me.
"Good morning." He smiled in a low, tired voice.
"Good morning." I replied and returned the smile.
His arm draped over me and pulled me under his body. He leaned down and kissed me gently. I stroked his bare back as we continued the kiss.
We pulled away and he pushed a strand of hair from my face.
"I hope today isn't our last." He spoke seriously.
I sighed. "I know. Me too."

It was 3:00 in the afternoon. The sky darkened. It was beginning. The storm was moving in. Steve and I drove to Nancy's house. Jonathan, of course, was already there. Lucas, Will and Dustin met us also.
We all stood around a round kitchen table. Jonathan laid out a paper that looked like a map.
"What's this?" I asked.
Everyone glanced at it.
"I got a hold of this. It's a map of the lab, all the floors and rooms." He explained.
I nodded, understandingly.
"If we," Jonathan pointed to himself and Nancy, "start here," he pointed to a back entry on the map, "maybe we can get past security."
"No, that's too easy," Steve disagreed. "This is the main floor. They have to have every exit guarded."
I agreed.
"If we all come in from different areas," Nancy began, but lost her thought.
It seemed we were out of ideas. Nancy felt hopeless, it was clear in her face.
"I thought today we would get him back." She broke into tears. Jonathan hugged her. "I just want my brother back."
Thunder crashed outside and winds blew at high speeds. We saw out the back window leaves flying in all directions and branches falling from trees.
Suddenly, the front door blew open. We all stared in that direction. Fog invaded the doorway.
As the fog cleared a bit, we made out two figures. Everyone stared in awe.
Thunder clapped again and there stood Mike and a girl. Blood dripped from her nose, similar to how mine did. I felt a connection with her immediately. She was like me.
We all remained standing speechless. She brought Mike home.
