Part 39

*Steve's POV*

Arguing with my father over my grades was never simple. It drained me. He didn't understand what I was going through, not that I ever tried to tell him.

I kicked through leaves on the side of the train tracks. A walk at dusk was what I needed to clear my head.

As I walked, I heard a snarl. "Shit." I muttered, turning around and seeing a demogorgan right on my heels. I had no weapons on me, nothing to defend myself.

I began to run as fast as I could. The woods seemed like an easier place to lose it, so I turned and ran between trees.

Three more demogorgans appeared, surrounding me. I had nowhere to go. This is the end of Steve Harrington, I thought.

Suddenly, one lunged at me, but was thrown back against another tree hard enough to kill it. The same happened when another tried to lunge at me. The other two got the hint and I just stood in awe and confusion.

Crunching leaves caught my attention. "Hello?" I called. "Hello?"

There was silence.

I walked around, peering in all directions. The crunching leaves sounded again.

This time I picked up my pace. Turning past a tree, I bumped into someone.

"Kristen?" I grasped her arm to keep her from falling over. She regained her balance and refused to look up at me. "What are you doing here? It's dangerous."

"I should be saying the same to you." She still remained looking down.

I placed a finger under her chin and brought her face up to look up at me. Blood dripped from her nose.

"Shit, babe. Your nose."

"What?" She had no idea until she wiped beneath her nose with her hand. "Oh?"

I pulled a wrinkled tissue from my pocket and handed it to her. "We have to get out of here." I glanced around, checking for more demogorgans. "I heard something before."

Without another word, I draped my arm over her shoulders and we walked quickly out of the woods.
