I greeted my parents when I arrived in my kitchen. Dinner was set on the table. My parents sat down and expected for me to do the same. Lying, I said I wasn't hungry and asked to be excused upstairs.
I ran up the stairs and stopped in the bathroom, grabbing the first aid kit. Then I stepped into my room, locking the door behind me. I peered out my window, examining the trees between my house and Steve's. I contemplated.
"Well, here we go." I sighed to myself, opening the window and stepping onto a tree branch. "Shit," I cursed, hearing the crackle of the branch. The tree I was in was close to another tree that led to Steve's bedroom window. A branch a little further down crossed over a branch of the other tree. That's where I would switch trees.
I couldn't believe I was actually doing this. I tried to rid myself of him, but I couldn't continue. I understood that he cared about me, and he has proved it multiple times. He deserved a second chance.Carefully, I placed my foot on the branch beneath me. My hands latched the main part of the tree. Somehow, I managed to successfully cross over to the other tree. Now my challenge was to climb up to his window.
I pretended that I was on a ladder. Just take it one step at a time. Twigs poked my head and pulled my hair. I could feel at least two leaves caught in my hair. If I make it to his room, I'd be surprised if I looked decent.
I pulled myself up, one handed since I was holding the first aid kit still.
At last, I reached his window. A dresser was next to the window, where Steve was standing, putting folded clothes away.
A shocked expression came across his face when we saw me. He quickly unlocked his window and pulled it up, allowing me to come in."Surprise." I said.
"What are you doing?" He tried to act as if he didn't care.
"I brought this." I revealed my first aid kit.
"I own bandaids," he responded sounding uninterested. He continued putting shirts in his drawers.
"Steve, come on." I begged.
"What, Kristen? I don't understand you." He finally gave me his attention.
With a sigh, I asked, "Can you sit down, so I can clean you up?"
His lip was still bleeding. He sat on his bed and I sat beside him. I opened the first aid kit and took out a tissue that I added a cleansing medicine to. He winced as I wiped his cut. "Sorry," I apologized. "It probably stings."
He didn't respond, but he allowed me to finish cleaning his cut. I switched tissues and held a dry one over his cut to stop the bleeding.
We were quiet, but the tension lessened.
As I continued to press the tissue to his lip, he took my other hand into his and began stroking it with his thumb. He looked into my eyes."I missed you." I admitted.
His face softened. "I missed you too, gorgeous."
He gently pushed the tissue and my hand away and pressed his lips to mine. I missed his soft lips on mine.
After we pulled away, I stroked his cheek with my hand and contently smiled. He returned the smile then chuckled.
"What?" I asked.
He reached behind my head. "You've got leaves in your hair." He revealed two leaves then tossed them in his garbage can. I laughed. Then he turned back to me.
I leaned in for a hug and he pulled me close, leaning back so we were laying down. I draped my arm over his body and he caressed it lightly. He placed a kiss on top of my head. We remained there and fell soundly asleep.
