-If I Stay...-

Running and running, I tried to make my way up to the ceiling stairs. How did she even get up there? I thought the doors were supposed to be locked. I didn't stop sprinting, god I couldn't waste any time. My most fear was what if it was too late? Damn, I didn't realize how much I hurt her, how much Tyler hurt her, her cousin, and this damn school hurt her. I promised her mom that I would keep her safe and take care of her, but this is way too much, I'm scared my own self. Saying the wrong thing would actually kill her. When I got to the top of the ceiling stairs, I kicked open the door and when it opened, I saw Tate leaning over the edge of the school building. OH MY GOD, SHE WAS ABOUT TO JUMP OFF.

"NOOO!" I held my hand out.

Luckily, Tate stopped herself before jumping off. The main problem was convincing her to get down. Tate turned her head slowly and her face was broken. She was crying very terribly. If was as if she wasn't there no more. I was afraid of losing her, but I think I already lost my girl.

"Max..." Her voice was dry from crying. "...Please leave."

"I'm not going to let you do this to yourself."

"You and I both don't have a choice. It's either this or hell here." She turned her head back to the ledge.

"WAIT! Taytum, just think for a moment. You're going to leave behind so much. What about your mom?" I hoped that helped.

"Do you even know what she said to me?" Angry grew in her voice.

"What, Tate? What did she say to you?"

"DO YOU WANT TO END UP LIKE JULIE?!" Man, why would her mother say something like that to her.

"Just think for a moment, Julie wouldn't want this for you. She made a mistake of giving everything up. Don't make the same mistake she made."

"Julies dead and soon I'll be there with her." I tried to think over and over on how I'm supposed to stop her from doing this. "Now can you please go, I would like to go without you here."

"TATE, I AM NOT LEAVING YOU HERE ALL ALONE!"

"Dammit, Max. Why do you care? It was all a bet to you. Do you not realize that maybe I want to go? Stop being selfish, let me leave."

"That's the problem, Tate. I don't want you leave. I love you way too much to ever let you go." I walked slowly towards her.

"Max stay where you are or I will jump. You're paining me because I love you so sooo much. It just hearts so much to know that I was being used all along."

"Tate, you gotta believe in me. I didn't take part in that bet. I would never ever try to do anything like that to you. I made a promise, Tate and I plan on keeping it. You got to trust me." I walked closer towards her.

"How do I know you're telling the truth? How do I know that when I get down, you won't go back to what you were before."

"Have I ever lied to you?"

There was silence between us. The only thing that could be heard was me and her both crying. I hate showing her my weakness, but if this is what would help her get down then I'm willing to take the risk.

"Tate, what about your dad? He wouldn't want this for you either. He loved you soo much. And even though he failed you for leaving you soo soon, doesn't mean you leave him." Tate began crying very hard.

"Max?"

I stepped a little bit closer to her. "Yes?"

"If I stay, would you promise never to let me go and that this is just a nightmare that I'm waking up from?" Hearing her say that made me feel relieved.
