-Promise Me-

(Max's point of view.)

Even though I came to surprise Tate at the center, she didn't look so happy seeing me. I mean I did tell her that I wasn't coming, but I don't know about that Quinton guy. Tate might not see it, but I sure as hell do. Taytum showed Mrs. Jase and I to the visitation room. I took a seat next to Mrs. Jase as Tate took a seat in front of us. She looked worried, like something was wrong or she was afraid of telling us something. I wanted to hold her, but then I'd know that I would get to attached and then I wouldn't want to leave her.

"It's great seeing you guys again." Tate smiled. "Even if its been two days."

"No matter how long it is, I will always miss seeing you." Mrs. Jase placed her hands on Taytum's hand.

"Max said that you wanted to talk to me about something."

"I did, but alone." Mrs. Jase looked at me as she said that.

"Alright, alright." I shook my head as I got up and went out the room.

I sat back down on the chairs at the front entrance. I wonder what was so important that Mrs. Jase had to tell Tate and not me as well. But there was something odd going on with Tate. She would barely look at me. Something was wrong with her and I couldn't put my finger on it. I know deep down that Tate couldn't be upset with me earlier when we talked on the phone, it was something else that was bothering her and I needed to get to the bottom of it.

Turning my head, I heard whistling coming down from the hall. There were nine people that showed up. Four girls and five boys. They all looked at me puzzlingly and came walking towards my way. I stood up and acknowledged their presence.

"Hey, you must be Tate's boyfriend." A girl with red hair spoke.

"How do you know that?" I looked her suspiciously.

"Relax dude, we're her friends." She laughed. "Anyway, I'm Red. This is my group and Tate's group."

"What is their names?"

"This is Gina, Christen, Meredith, Mason, Payton, Bryce, Dan, and Quinton." Everyone said hi to me except for Quinton.

I turned my attention to Quinton as I remembered that this was the guy that Tate was hanging out with the most. He wasn't bad looking and I felt jealously grow inside of me. What was this guy getting at with my girl? I eventually calmed myself down and tried talking to Quinton. He looked a bit nervous as if he didn't want to talk to me at all, but I really didn't care. I just wanted to get to know the guy. Was it that bad for me to want to do that? (Yes it is.)

(Tate's point of view)

Sitting at a table with my mom, there was a long hard silence between us. I was tapping my foot and staring at her as she signed and kept glancing off to the television in the room.

"Mom...?" I said.

"I came here because I wanted to talk to you about your grandmother." A tear trickled down her cheek.

"What about her, mom?"

"She has stage 2 breast cancer. That is why I've been going over to her house. Your grandmother stopped doing chemo because she's dying." I honestly didn't know what to say. I was sad, but then I really had no feeling to it. I was just neutral. I know that my grandmother was my mom's mom and she was in pain from this, but my grandmother didn't really want me in her life. She basically pushed me away during my childhood. So is it bad that I'm not emotional about this? No because I know that I love her, but things happen and they're meant to happen.
