-Recollecting Herself-

(Tate's point of view)

Waking up, I turned my head to see Max sleeping in the hospital bed with me. I'm soo upset that I put him through that mess yesterday. I'm surprised that he's even still with me. I looked around the room and saw my mom sleeping in a chair near the window. She had bags under her eyes. She must've been crying a lot. I hate seeing them both like this, it just made me dig a deeper hole for myself. What happened yesterday, that wasn't me. I was usually a fighter, but I had no more strings holding me together. That's when I gave up, that's when I had enough. Now sitting here made me realize that I wasn't ready to leave. I had someone that still needed me, cared about me, and loved me. I was the one being selfish and for that, I'm sorry to Max, Tyler, my mom, my dad, my teammates, Cassidy, and Julie.

I laid my head on top of Max's since I was still a bit tired. So many things happened in these four months. I began humming a small little song poem that my dad would sing to me every night when I was a little girl. Its the one poem that would keep me calm in difficult situations.

I will stick by you even if you are wrong

I will comfort you, when your nights are long

I will be next to you, in times of sorrow

I will make you smile, when you feel low

I will watch over you, when you are weak

I will guide you, when the future looks bleak

I will be there for you, whenever you need me

I will always love you, my beloved baby

-Love Dad

I would hum it over and over until I began to drift off to sleep.

Max woke up because some investigators wanted to talk to me about yesterday. I wasn't really in the mood, but I knew that this is what my mom would want. She would want me to tell them why I was driven into committing suicide. I sat up some to speak. Max held my hand for comfort while one of the Detectives began asking questions.

"Good Morning, Miss. Jase. I'm Detective Mendez and this is my partner, Detective Johannes. We would like to ask you some questions about the little incident that went down. If you could please start with how your high school life has been." Mendez smiled at me.

I looked at Max and he nodded his head, telling me it was ok for me to speak. "Well, I haven't always been that girl that had friends, boyfriends, or even been nominated for things. I was mainly the nerd that always read her book. Before high school, being bullied wasn't that bad. I would basically be called names or laughed at, but when I stepped foot in the school that I am currently in, my life deescalated. For example, since there was more freedom in high school, I was often pushed around, shoved against lockers, and was terribly accused for false things." I turned to see Max trying to keep his cool.

"May I ask, did you have any close friends while you were in high school?"

"I did." I tried to hold back the tears. Speaking about her still haunts me. "I had a best friend named, Julie. She should've been hanging out with the popular kids, because she had lots of friends, had a few boyfriends, and was extremely pretty, but instead she chose to be with me. She was an amazing friend, sister, partner in crime and all. I loved her dearly, until one day she told me that she was dating this guy. His name was Justin. I warned Julie that he was bad news and broke a lot of girls hearts, but you know Julie, she didn't take a no for an answer. Then another day, she told me that she had lost her virginity to Justin. I was kind of upset with her in some kind of way because why give it to a wuss when you can give it to another Max." I laughed. Max rested his head on my shoulder.
