I have an embarrassing secret, I like to bake! It's a stress outlet for me, but sometimes it gets a little out of hand when I'm really stressed and the kitchen gets filled with sweets. Only my mom knows about my love for baking because I always bake cookies for her and her work friends, Christmas parties, and any of her fundraisers. I would like to bake things for Connor, but I'm too afraid that he'll think I'm weird and won't want to talk to me anymore.
I pull a fresh batch of chocolate cookies out from the oven. I hear a knock on the front door. I put the cookies down as fast as possible. I throw off my oven gloves, and my apron, but not in time for Connor to walk into the kitchen.
"Hey, Hansen what's-"
I cut him off by throwing one of my oven mitts at him.
"Pff. Hey, what the heck?"
"I-I'm so sorry! I-I didn't, didn't mean too!"
He holds the oven mitt in his hand and looks around the kitchen. "What's all this? You bake?"
"I can bake, but I don't do it often," I say looking away. My mom says I'm a terrible liar.
He laughs. "Nice try Hansen."
"Okay. I-I do bake, it's a stress outlet, I know it's really-"
Connor cuts me off. "Hey. I think it's pretty cool that you bake! And these cookies," He points at the pan of cooling cookies, "They look delicious!"
I blush. "You really think so?"
"Of course! I would've loved to sit back and watch, or film you or something!"
"I'm sorry. I just, I thought you might think I'm weird and not want to talk to me ever again." I say looking down."No, I would never do that, I love you." He gives me a big hug
I hug back, enjoying his big, sturdy frame against mine.
That is until an all too familiar voice interrupts. "What up losers? Oh, cookies!"
I quickly break out the hug and throw an oven mitt at Jared. "Don't touch the cookies!"It hits Jared on the side of his face. "Ow! Hey!"
The mitt falls to the floor. "Those are for my mom, not you, Jared!"
Connor steps up to him. "What are you doing here?"
"Evan invited me."
Connor looks back at me, I shake my head and wave my hands dramatically to tell I didn't, and that he was lying.
He sighs and turns back to Jared. "You came here because you wanted to, didn't you?"
"And we have a winner! Your prize is a cookie!" Jared snatches a cookie off of the pan and holds it out to Connor. Connor takes it and puts it back on the pan. "Okay, Jared, time for you to leave.""But-" Jared tries to talk, but Connor pushes him to the front door and shoves him out.
He comes back into the kitchen and looks at me.
I look back. "I'm gonna make cupcakes now, you want some?"
"I would love some."
