“Connor, come down now!” Mom yelled up to me for the fifth time. I get out of my chair and loudly make my way down. The rest of the family sits at the table, already eating. I plop myself down in a seat and dish out very little food.

“Take more than that!” Dad scolds me.

I roll my eyes a dish out just a little more. I barely touch my food.

Mom looks at my plate. “Connor, what is wrong with you?”

I look at her and slouch, something she hates. “What do you mean?”

“You never listen to me or your father, and you barely eat anything. I thought things would get better now that your with that Evan boy.”

“I don't know, mom, maybe you shouldn't be so fast to figure things out.”

“Don't talk to your mother like that.”

I look at my dad. “And maybe you shouldn't beat down. Like what have you ever done for me?”

“I have done plenty, young man. You're just too stubborn to see it!”

“What about me?” Zoe says from across the table. “What do think of me?”

“Zoey.” Mom shoots her a look.

“Your fine. Just annoying.”

“Connor, that's it! Go to your room.” Dad points to the stairs.

I grab my plate and head up to my room. I place the plate on my desk, and text Evan. ‘How you doing?’ I set it down and a minute later it goes off.

‘I'm fine. Just got out of the shower.’

‘Sorry to burst your bubble, but date night's canceled.’

‘Oh.’

I lean back in my chair knowing he’s probably really upset. ‘If you want I can order you food.’

‘Please?’

‘Okay. I’ll give you the money tomorrow.’

‘You don't have to.’

‘Hansen, I swear to god’

‘Okay, fine.’

I smile and order him a pizza. ‘Okay it'll be there in 30 minutes.’

‘Thank you, Connor.’

‘No prob, love you.’

‘Love you too.’

I walk up to Evan and wrap my arms around his waist and kiss the top of his head. “Hey, baby.”

He melts into my embrace. “Hi.”

I break the hug and take out my wallet. “How much was it?”

He turns to me. “Ten dollars.”

I eye him. “Ten?”

“It'll cover it.”

“How much was it?”

“Fourteen-fifty.”

“That's what I thought.” I hand him the money and kiss the top of his head again. “Your-”

Evan cuts me off. “I didn't say thank you yet!” He kisses my cheek, “Thank you.”

“Can I say it now?”

He nods.

“Your welcome.”

He smiles and puts the money in his bag, then we both walk to class.
