"Oh fur tree!" I say leaning back in the front seat. "Why are you heere?" Yes, I purposely made the joke.
"Did you just?! Did he just?!"
"Suck it, Heere!"
"I swear I'm gonna rip your-!"
"Jeremy!" Mom snaps at him. "Be nice!"
Like that's ever worked before... I think to myself.
I hear Jeremy flop back into his seat. "Can we just go home now?"
"Sorry, boys, but your coming with me somewhere else." She starts to drive off.
"Mom, please? Just let me go home."
"Sorry Evan, no can do."
I sigh and look out the window.
Mom pulls into the parking lot of The Flavor Master, an ice cream shop.
"An ice cream shop?" Jeremy asks sounding very annoyed.
"I thought you two could do a little bit of bonding."
I groan and so does Jeremy.
"Oh, come on. It'll be fun!" Mom says way too cheerful.
We get out the car and stand in line.
"So," Jeremy says hunched over, something I've rarely seen him do. "What do you want us to do to 'bond?'"
"Well," Mom answers. "I was thinking you two would order each other's favorite flavor."
"Fine. I'm simple. I like the mint and chocolate chunk. What do you like, Evan?"
I softly mumble my favorite.
"Sorry, Evan. I can't hear you." He says through gritted teeth.
"I like th-the, the peanut butter and cookie one. Unless y-your allergic, then you can order something else."
"No, I'm not allergic."
"O-okay."
We wait in line until it's our turn. Jeremy speaks first. I'm hoping to go last.
Once Jeremy finishes ordering he tells me it's my turn. I look at my mom. "Didn't you want something?"
"I'm still thinking about what I want. Take your order." She winks at me.
"I-I'll have the ch- the mint and chocolate chunk." I quickly hide behind mom, but not making it too obvious, I've had tons of practice.
Mom places her order and we wait there. Jeremy eyes me, silently judging and and complaining and what not.
Our order comes to the window and we find a spot to sit.
"Well, that was a disaster." I say plunking myself down in a seat.
"Not at all." Jeremy taunts me. "If anything, the only thing that ruined it was you hiding behind your mommy."
"He's just shy, is all." Mom shrugs it off.
I sink into my seat and eat the ice cream. It's not something I would eat on a regular basis or at all, but I can see why he likes it. It's hard to read what Jeremy thinks of my flavor. Maybe he likes it?
We walk in the house, Jeremy walks into the kitchen. I seat myself on the couch. I just remember my phone's shut off, I probably have over nine thousand texts from Connor. I take it out of my pocket and turn it on. It's dead. "Dang." I mutter under my breath. I head up to my room, but before I even get near the stairs, Jeremy walks in and decides to play detective.
