Jeremy always finds bruises on his body, today was no different. He stood in front of his bathroom mirror looking at all these bruises, most darker than others and they look like they hurt, but they don't. That's what confuses him the most. He sighs and puts his shirt back on. He walks down stairs and grabs his bag, before he walks out the door his father has him take a seat on the couch.

Mr. Heere looks at his son with a worried face. “I know I've asked you a million times before, but I need to know. Are you being bullied at school?”

Jeremy lets out a huff as he stands. “I don't know what to tell you dad, but I have no idea where these bruises are coming from.”

“Son, please.”

Jeremy walks to the door. “I'm not being bullied. Goodbye.” He slams the door behind him.

Mr. Heere still stands in the living room. “That boy…” He sighs.

Jeremy walks into the school and already there's drama. A large crowd of people clutter one area of the hall. The loud slam of lockers from a body hitting it sets everyone into a yelling mess. Jeremy pushed his way to the front to see what's going on. Once he gets there a boy in a red sweater is laying on the floor, his arms shaking as he tries to push himself up. Jeremy rushes in and helps the boy up.

“What the fuck do you think your doing?” A tall student who has some beef with this kid snarls at Jeremy.

“This is wrong.” The crowd boos at Jeremy's response.

The boy lungs at Jeremy.

Jeremy blocks the hit with his forearm. That'll leave a bruise.

The boy in Jeremy's arms tugs him away, only to be shoved back in the the crowd. Both boys collapse to the floor. Jeremy helps the other boy off The floor and blocks another hit from ‘beef’ guy. The boy becomes shaky and the look on his face is helpless and hopeless.

Jeremy sweeps the boy off of his feet and rams through the crowd of people. He gets through and dashes to an abandoned washroom. He sets the boy on floor.

“Thank you.” The small boy says. “You didn't have to do that.”

“I couldn't just stand there and do nothing.” Jeremy says as he gets a wet paper towel for him. He brings it over and gives it to the boy.

He places it against his eye.

Jeremy sits next to him. He becomes tempted to lean on this boy. No, Jeremy. That's just weird. He glances over at the boy and his cheeks flush. Damn it, he's cute. “S-so, what's your name?”

“Michael Mell.”

“I'm Jeremy. Jeremy Heere.”

Michael turns to Jeremy and give him a small smile. It quickly fades when he sees Jeremy's eye. He reaches and touches it. “How did you get that?”

“Get what?” Jeremy looks at him puzzled.

“You have a black eye.”

“I've always been getting bruises and stuff since I was a kid. I have no idea where they come from.”

“Oh.” Michael rolls up his sleeve, a big bruise sits in his forearm. “Funny, I don't recall getting hit there.”

Jeremy rolls up his sleeve and he has the exact same bruise on his arm. “Hold on.” Jeremy reaches into his bag and pulls out a pocket knife.

“What are you doing?” Michael asks, his tone sounding a bit frightened.

“I'm gonna cut myself.”

“Don't do that!”

“No, not like that. To see, uh, if we're soulmates.”

“It's not worth it, Jeremy.”

Jeremy doesn't listen and makes a small cut on his arm. Michael looks at his arm and a small cut sits where Jeremey cut his. The two boys sit in silence and awe. They had found each other.

“So. Uh, what are all the bruises from?” Jeremy asks.

Michael shifts uneasily. “My dad. He, uh. Beats me.”

“I'm sorry. Do you, uh, wanna come over to my place? We could get to know each other?”

“Uh sure.”

Sorry it was short.
