Connor always had reputation for staying up late and arriving late to school late, and it was true. He stayed up late, usually smoking pot, but tonight was different. Tonight Connor snuck downstairs at two forty in the morning to make something to eat. He was quiet in the hallway, but his sister just happened to need to use the washroom and they bumped into each other in their own hallway.
"What are you doing up?" Zoe whisper yelled at his brother.
"I should be asking you that!" He whispered yelled back.
"Go back to bed!" Zoe shot at her brother.
"I don't go to bed, you know that."
"Yeah, I know. You just smoke weed all night."
"Shut up. You'll wake up mom and dad."
"You'll wake them up with your fucking nonsense!"
"Whatever!"
"Move! I need to use the bathroom."
"Yeah, whatever, woman."
"Fuck you!"
"Fuck you too!"
The siblings part ways and Connor quietly makes his way down the stairs.
He creeps his way into the kitchen. He turns on the stove light and takes a small pan out of the wooden cabinets. He places it on the stove top and turns the stove on to heat the pan up. He quickly gets what he needs to make his cheesey sandwich. He prepares the sandwich and places it in the pan. He jumps a little when he hear the stairs creek.
He turns around to see his sister again, "What the fuck are you doing?" He says quietly
"Now you got me wanting a late night snack or whatever your doing at this ungodly hour," Zoe places herself in a kitchen chair.
"You want one, you make it yourself."
"Fine."
"I'm already making mine, so you have to wait."
"I'm okay with that."
Connor shakes his head and flips his sandwich to a golden brown. He does a small dance of victory.
Zoe giggles at his childish behaviour.
Both siblings turn to the stair case when the kitchen light is flipped on. At the entrance of the kitchen stands Larry, their father.
"How come no invited me to the party?" Larry says surprisingly enthusiastic.
"You're not mad?" Connor asks.
"Not really," Larry walks up to the stove. "Grilled cheese as a midnight snack? Count me in," Larry takes the spatchula from his son's hand and continues what Connor began.
"You're kinda cool, dad," Zoe crosses her legs on her chair.
"Kinda?" Larry turns to his daughter.
Connor sits next to his sister. "Kinda," he confirms.
"Well you guys are boring. I mean how many dads cook grilled cheese at three in the morning with their kids?"
"Not very many," Zoe answers.
"But this only makes you kind of cool," Connor finishes.
"You guys really are no fun."
Both siblings roll thier eyes.
Larry hands Connor his grilled cheese sandwich on a plate. He starts making another one, "Zoe? Sandwich?"
"I wouldn't be down here if I didn't."
"Yeah, I bet you'd still be peeing," Connor gives his sister a light nudge.
"Shut up, Connor," Zoe shoves his brother, making him fall off his chair.
Larry and Zoe crack up. Connor grumbles as he gets back up. He slides his chair a few inches further away from Zoe.
"Like that's gonna do anything," Zoe scoffs at his childish attempt.
"Shut up," Connor shot Zoe a look.
A few moments pass in the now quiet room.
"Sorry for waking you up, dad," Connor apologizes.
"Dont be silly, Connor," Larry hands Zoe her sandwich.
"Sorry," Connor apologizes again.
"Connor, I swear if you picked up on Evan's apology habbit," Zoe warns her brother.
"Hell no," Connor responded to his sister.
Larry places another sandwich into the pan and the silence returns. It stays quiet for a long time, until Larry devours his sandwich.
"Well, I'm going back to bed," Zoe says standing up and heads to the stairs.
"Goodnight, Zoe," Connor and Larry say in unison.
Shortly after Larry stands up and walks towards the stairs, "Goodnight, Connor," is all he said.
After sitting alone in the kitchen for a few minutes he turns everything off and heads back to his room to be just as alone.Based off of:
