I was in the kitchen baking for the fifth time this week. Mom walked in and saw me mixing up some cookie batter.

“Hey, mom.”

“Hey, sweets. You feeling okay? This is the fifth time this week.”

“I guess it's been a little rough the past few days.”

She comes over and hugs me. “My poor baby.”

I blush, “Mom, I'm not a baby.”

“You are to me.” She kisses the top of my head. “Well, I'm going to bed. Don't burn the house down, okay?”

“I won’t.”

She walks out of the kitchen and headed up the stairs.

I sigh and check the time on my phone. It’s almost ten. Just then I get a text from Connor. ‘Hey, babe. Are you baking rn?’

‘Hey. Ya I’m in the kitchen making cookies! :) Do you want some? I can bring them tomorrow.’

I hit send, and almost instantly, he starts typing back.

‘As much as would, I'm still trying to keep Zoe out of the last batch you made me.’

‘Really? I'll give some to her then, if she can't stay out of yours.’

‘Okay. Just give them to me and I'll give to them to her’

‘Okay. I’m going to go back to baking. I'll see you tomorrow.’

‘Kay, love you.’

‘Love you.’

I set my phone down and start placing the cookie batter onto the pan.

I place the cookies into three different containers, one for Connor, Zoe, and mom. On mom’s I put a little note in it. ‘Give these to cute guys. Love, your baby boy.’ I giggle at myself. She’s going to love this.

I gave Connor two containers. “Here they are.”

Connor kisses the top of my head. “Thank you.”

“It’s no problem.”

Jared walks over. “Hey hot topic, hey Hansen.” He spots the containers. “Where are my cookies?”

“Ones for Zoe and one's for Connor, the rest I gave to my mom. “

“So you make some for Zoe, who you still can't talk to even though your with Connor, and not for me, who you can talk to?”

“Shut up, Jared!” Connor defended.

“No no, it's fine. I can make some tonight.”

“You will do no such thing.” Connor says. “You already look really tired. I don't want you overworking yourself. You can bring him some on Monday.”

“Oh, come on, Connor. He looks fine! Let the boy bake.”

I look at Connor, who has that look on his face. That ‘I really want to punch this guy in the face’ look.

Connor grabs my arm. “We gotta go, see you later.” And with that he pulls me away from Jared.

“Oh, okay! See ya!” He shouts as we walk down the hallway.

“You won't bake tonight, will you?” He asks as we stop at his locker.

“No, I'm taking a break for a few days.”

“Good.”

I smile as he puts the cookies behind his bag.

He looks over at me. “Just so that I don't forget them.”

I give him a hug. “Okay,” I pull away. “I’m going to class now, I'll see you at lunch.”

“Okay.” He waves goodbye as I walk down the hall.
