“Hold on, let me get this straight. You like Zoe?” Connor askes as he and Evan walkes to his place.

“Well, I used too? I could never talk to her, so I don't really try anymore to get her. I've fallen out of love with her, I guess.”

Connor smiles. Maybe I can get him. Wait, is he even bi? Is he even into guys? “So, you know a bit about me. I want to know about you.”

“Well, I live with my mom. She's a nurse so I don't really get to see to often and my dad left when I was little, so I'm alone in the house most of the time,” Evan looks down.

“Ouch.”

“Not really. I don't really mind being alone. Besides my ‘friend’ Jared comes over once in awhile.”

“Why is Jared your ‘friend’ and not your friend?”

“It's a family arrangement. Jared gets his parents to pay for his car insurance by talking to me.”

“Ouch. That stings.”

“Yeah, I don't have any real friends.”

“Yeah you do.”

“I do?”

“Me.”

“You? Not that I don't want you to be my friend it's just… You?”

Connor nods, “Why not?”

“I… why not?”

Connor grabs Evan's hand and races towards a field. Evan tries his best to keep up with Connor’s long legs. Once the two boys reach a grassy area, Connor falls backwards and lands on his back pulling Evan down with him.

“Why are we here?” Evan looks at Connor.

“To hang,” Connor answers.

“I thought we were going to your place.”

“I changed my mind.”

“Okay…”

Evan looks at their intertwined hands and smiles. I wonder if he likes guys. No, of course not! Look at him! He's too beautiful and- Evan shakes his head. Evan!

“You okay, Evan?” Connor looks at Evan.

Evan looks back, “Oh, yeah. Uh. Just clearing my head.”

“Of what?”

“Just a silly thought.”

Connor looks into Evan's eyes. Evan's face flushes red.

“You like me,” Connor smirks slyly.

Evan's face deepens to a shade of red, “Oh, I, no! I mean yes! I mean… maybe?” Evan sputters.

Connor leans in and kisses Evan’s lips.

Evan’s caught off guard and pulls away.

Connor looks at Evan with disappointment, “I thought…”

“No no no no no! I just, I didn't think!”

“It's fine. You don't have to pretend. I hate fake people,” Connor stands up and starts walking away.

Evan stands up and races after Connor, “Wait, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-”

“Didn't mean to what?” Connor whips around, “Hurt me? Too late for that.”

“Connor, please, just let me explain!”

“You don't have to explain anything! I get the hint,” Connor turns and starts walking.

“I think you have pretty hair!” Evan shouts.

Connor stops walking but doesn’t turn around.

“And I think you need someone to be there for you,” Evan's voice chokes up, “Just like I do. I'm tired of having fake friends. I want someone to be true. I want that person to be you, Connor. So, please? Don't leave?”

Connor turns and walks towards a sobbing Evan. He places his hands on Evan's face, “I'm tired of having fake friends too.” He slowly leans in and kisses Evan's lips. Evan kisses back wrapping his arms around Connor’s waist.

Connor pulls away, “I want to get to know you.”

“Me too,” Evan puts his head against Connor’s chest.
