Mavis followed Hunter willingly, even though she knew that was barely the right thing to do.
"You seem nervous," Hunter commented amused at her as he led the way, finally happy to have gotten rid of Lillian.
"You seem like you care." Mavis shot back convinced now she would have been better off dealing with an over the top Lillian than a smiling Hunter.
A smiling Hunter was always a dangerous Hunter, and he knew that too so he kept his grin wider than usual.
"Hurtful! Of course, I care!" And he feigned the worried face so masterfully that Mavis had to admit he was quite good despite the annoyance that came with every compliment. "I mean, haven't you seen how thoughtful and caring I have been with you lately?!"
Well, at least he was owning up to his own misdeeds, Mavis thought as they both turned around and reached the main entrance of the school.
"You were better when you didn't speak to me," she muttered under her breath as she gladly stepped out of the school's building. The schoolyard had probably more students than the inside, but the fresh air and the big space made it feel nicer, especially at the beginning of a chill September.
"Hey, I thought you didn't like it when I was better. I thought I was doing you a favor."
"And since when do you do favors for me?" Mavis spoke harshly, even more annoyed at how he thought he was making random acts of niceness for her when he was the reason she had felt down so many times the past two weeks alone. But that's all she could say because Hunter stopped abruptly, making her run head first into him.
Way too close to him.
"Now I am the one annoyed," Hunter pushed her away, hostility was dripping heavily from his deep voice. "Watch where you go Mine!"
"And you give me a warning before you stop!" she mirrored him as she rubbed her forehead feeling a tinge of pain just above her left eyebrow.
"If I didn't know better I would say you like me! Just like Lillian thinks too."
Hunter had spoken the words slowly, so slow he almost didn't say them, but Mavis heard it well. She lifted her eyes and stared at him confused. Not confused at his words, confused at how he had said them with so much hatred as if his skin burned like hell every time he touched her.
It sounded exaggerated to Mavis' ears too but with what else could she compare his weird expression and the way he pushed her away without even letting her balance herself first.
"I'm sorry?!"
"You are not forgiven!" he added immediately as he leaned in on the inner wall of the surrounding school fences. "This is strike two."
"Strike two?!" Mavis raised her eyebrow even more confused.
"Keep up Mine! And then you refuse to accept how stupid you are. You let me kiss you just two or so days ago. You let Me out of all people! One would have expected some resistance of any kind since you are always preaching girls to never let guys make them do stuff they don't want, but the moment I approach you and you are all about it."
Mavis stared at him open-mouthed. One, two, three seconds passed before she was able to finally lift her fists and hit him hard in the chest.
"You motherfuc**r! You kiss me, you assault me and ruin everything and then you blame me cause you felt uncomfortable doing it?!"
Hunter easily caught her hands pulling them down, making her go even closer to him.
"Yes, because you froze like an ass and we almost kissed. How do I know you didn't just let it happen and that you were not planning to actually kiss me? And just by the way, if you had kissed me against my will that would have counted as sexual assault."
