"If you had gotten ready to go home while waiting for me instead of playing around in the pool now I wouldn't have to wait for you," Mrs. Jensen remarked as Mavis entered the car just a minute after Hunter.
"I didn't know how long it will take you to come, mom," Hunter replied annoyed. "Now, can I get my own car and drive or you expect me to leave it here?"
Mavis stood silently as she witnessed their exchange wondering if the slight annoyance had anything to do with what Mrs. Jensen had seen. They hadn't had a chance to talk about it yet.
"Yeah sure, go ahead." Mrs. Jensen said as she dismissed him from her car, "But Mavis is coming with me."
Mavis' hand froze just as she was about to open her own door and go out. She would rather be in a car with Hunter right now than in a car with Mrs. Jensen. Apparently, Hunter had been of the same opinion because he gave his mother a long look before grudgingly leaving.
Mrs. Jensen shook her head in disappointment and she started her car.
As they made it for the main road, no one talked. Mavis certainly didn't want to be the one to talk first. What was there for her to say anyways?
Now, there was a way she could lie around it since she and Hunter had barely kissed for a second before they had to split (which was another frustrating thing Mavis had to deal with) so she could find something to justify what had happened.
"Don't think about it, darling. I was there for a full two minutes watching you guys to see if you would kiss or not."
Mavis started blushing and she was glad she was sitting at the back of the car rather than the passenger seat.
"You will have to come with a very believable lie for what I saw."
"Your son has a girlfriend!" Mavis blurted out, but once she saw the surprise in Mrs. Jensen's face, she started regretting it.
"So you were kissing my son, sorry, he kissed you while dating another girl?!"
"No, wait!"
"Think about what you are going to say, Mavis, before you say it. I would normally question my own son about this but he is too smooth with lies and I couldn't stand the sexual tension between you two."
Mavis chocked on her own spit as she tried to keep it together.
"There... there is no tension between me... and your son."
Mrs. Jensen chuckled without humor.
"I basically stopped you guys right when you started kissing. I know for one my son didn't appreciate that."
And neither did Mavis. If Mrs. Jensen had been spying on them for a while, couldn't she wait until they kissed properly? Now Mavis was left with a hollow stomach and a strong desire to just see Hunter again and jump on him.
Mavis blushed at her own thought as she remembered Mrs. Jensen's 'sexual tension' joke.
"So Mavis, continue talking. I don't really want to be around while you have indecent thoughts for my son."
The shame Mavis felt at the moment could dwarf anything else. How could Mrs. Jensen even tell she was thinking about Hunter and the kiss?!
But she didn't want to think for long, so Mavis took a deep breath and continued.
"Well, Hunter said the girl he is with it's not his girlfriend per se. They are just going out to see if they actually want to progress the relationship."
"Let me guess," Mrs. Jensen interrupted her, "they are in an open relationship?"
Mavis couldn't properly see Mrs. Jensen's face but she was sure the woman wasn't too happy.
