Mavis had indeed pestered Hunter for quite a while. That's how she had ended under him, kissing him like there was no tomorrow.
There had been no tomorrow indeed.
So she did what she should have done from the beginning.
Mavis completely ignored Hunter for the rest of the week. Soo Alex joined her and Kira (which surprisingly liked Alex and didn't try to threaten him away from them) during the lunches and sometimes classes.
"You should join the theater club!" Alex told Mavis one day. "It's actually fun and goofy. And you get to dress up weirdly all the time."
"You like dressing up huh?" Kira teased him.
"Do I like dressing up like a badass villain, throwing around stupid lines and pretending I'll conquer the world?! Hell yeah!"
Mavis laughed at him and Kira just rolled her eyes in agreement. Apparently, Alex was pretty immune to anything Kira had to throw his way. His easy-going attitude and confidence made him quite a nice company. Certainly a change from the normal routine.
"Maybe you can dress up as a bloodthirsty pirate who has sworn to revenge the death of his lovely but dead wife?" Alex suggested to Kira.
"As the wife or the bloodthirsty pirate?"
"I'm sure you can pass as both," Alex joked receiving a deadly glare from Kira.
Mavis knew deep down she liked Alex and his humor as much as she liked to glare.
"Doesn't the theater just do Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet?" Mavis asked assured their school theater would never go as far as bloodthirsty cool pirates.
"They used too. But with some begging, they have allowed new pieces too for as long as they are reviewed by a teacher and contain no lewd scenes." Alex explained.
"Like holding hands?" Kira gasped.
"Especially holding hands! God forbid someone goes as far as holding hands!"
Mavis laughed again.
"It does sound like a lot of fun," she agreed.
"And it doesn't give Alex a chance to flirt with you under the 'it's just theater' cover," Kira joked with a very pointy look.
"Hey!" Mavis protested with a light laugh but she couldn't help but notice the slight blush covering Alex's cheeks as he too tried to laugh it off.
"I'll think about it," Mavis said after a while. "I'm currently in search of some club anyways."
"Great! The theater club is also hosting a pool party this weekend," Alex chimed excitedly. "It's our way of staying relevant..."
"And watching girls in their swimsuits!" Kira interrupted him again.
"Why do you think pools exist?" Alex joked, "But it's not only for the girls. It's for the guys too. So typical of you to assume gender, Kira."
"Any hot boys coming then?"
"Plenty actually. The whole point of these parties is to get the more popular kids to hang out with us and reward us by attending the plays. Guilt trapping them basically."
Mavis laughed.
"Does it ever work?" She asked.
"We are quite good at acting so I would say yes."
But Mavis was still not convinced to go to the pool party. She would rather just stay warm at home. Her throat was still a bit scratchy and it seemed like a fever was going to down on her at any moment now.
