Mavis tried to avoid Hunter's gaze. After all, she would look quite pervert-ish if people knew she wore his shirts when she went to sleep just because they were comfortable and felt good on the skin. Hunter could afford these kinds of shirts, she and her brother couldn't.

"Do you know where he is?" she asked impatiently. Her voice had started to become a bit raspy by now since talking and being on point amid a laud party required a lot of breath.

"I am not the one having a crush on him, so no. Don't know. Don't care. But he is getting high enough to build a skyscraper today." Hunter left his drink somewhere around them and started making his way out of the kitchen and away from her. "I have some nice company to catch up with tonight, so your time is up! Stay away from trouble and don't you dare put my party in danger."

And with that, he left her alone and disappeared among the dancing and drinking crowds somewhere. Along with the music, Mavis could hear people scream all over the place but the main noise came from the dance area where Cole was since most of the words you could make out were 'Mine', 'Cole' and some 'Champion' nonsense. After determining her hate for her surname and laud noise, she went toward the dancing area. She could just dance or try finding Elijah though for some reason she didn't feel like meeting him anymore. But she didn't go through all the trouble to get ready and attend the party so he wouldn't see her. Didn't guys like a simply dressed girl with the I-don't-care look on her?

Romance books said cool guys always fell for the cute, simple girl, so maybe she could try out her luck after all.

Mavis did spot Elijah after 10 minutes of aimlessly looking around. He was getting high, just like Hunter warned her, dancing in the middle of the dance floor his right arm around a tall and dressed up blond and his left arm holding a big bottle of beer. Something told Mavis beers were not all that he had because he looked so out of reality, his head bobbing up and down with no relevance to the music and his dancing legs were almost throwing off balance the blond griding him. Mavis didn't feel hurt or betrayed. She felt disgusted and ready to wander off somewhere she wouldn't have to see him but luck that night wasn't on her side.

"Mavis Mine!"

Even over the loud noise, his shout was heard by the people around him clearly. Mavis duck her head and tried to blend in with the crowd but when you are the sore thumb in a big party, hiding is not really a thing.

"Mavis Mine, over here!" Elijah tried to wave at her only ending up falling over the blond girl who managed to keep both of them up and steady.

Trying to escape the embarrassment. Mavis tried to search for her brother, but Cole, who sat just at the edge of the dance floor, gave her a sympathetic look and turned around at his friends.

"Mavis!! Come on Mine, your crush is calling you!"

Mavis stood patronized as Elijah's voice rang clear all over the room and her ears were suddenly thumbing in the sudden silence. She heard people laughing, others just dropping whatever they were doing to see the night's victim of the party.

Why would there always be a party victim?!

"I thought she had a crush on Hunter?!" the girl who had clearly voiced her annoyance at the kitchen spoke again only to make the situation worse.

"I don't really have a crush on anyone, sorry to disappoint you. Go back to your little party!" Mavis yelled calmly and turned around trying to close off the interruption.

"Come on Mine! I know you like me!" Elijah called again as he flipped his bleached hair trying to appeal to her.

He used to be hot. Elijah was always hot and collected. Those types of boys that made every girl fall or them, Mavis included, while managing to maintain their ego and style intact no matter where they were or what they were doing. But his dead-looking hair and foggy brown eyes were far from being someone Mavis would care about.
