I like you too.

I like you too.

Those words had been real. Hunter had really said them out loud. And right after he had kissed her.

He had actually kissed her.

And the next day at school, there was no girl calling him honey. He wasn't pushing her away either. In the morning he had smiled at her. Mavis and Hunter didn't sit together in class or during lunch, but they had exchanged smiles and looks and they were both aware that the previous day something had shifted between the two.

Hunter even winked at her once as he passed by her in the hallway.

As the end of the school came, Mavis went out to try and catch her bus, but just like the previous day, it was raining. And just like the other day, Hunter was out there, seemingly waiting for her.

"Are you gonna offer a ride?" Mavis smirked as she walked towards him.

"Not really," Hunter replied sporting an awkward smile, "I just wanted to talk to you."

"What's wrong?!" Mavis wondered if something had happened either to him or to someone they knew. For the first time ever she did not think Hunter had done something to her.

"Nothing is wrong," Hunter said dismissively, "I just wanted to talk about yesterday."

Mavis blushed.

Yesterday had been one of the best days of her life.

"What about yesterday? You... regret it?"

"No! Of course not! On the contrary, I really liked it."

There was a hint of blush in Hunter's cheek this time around which made Mavis smile even more. She had never seen Hunter blush, let alone say he liked hanging out with her.

"I liked it too," Mavis said as she bit her bottom lip trying to stop the big smile that kept being in her face and turned her eyes away from him. What if she seemed so excited that turned Hunter off?

"Good," Hunter didn't hide his smile, "Cause I was thinking we should, you know... maybe go on another date?"

Mavis' eyes snapped in his direction.

"Well, of course, we will go some other day. I mean, technically speaking the perfect time for a second date would be... let's say... three to four days from now? This way we give each other time and all to think about the relationship and all." Hunter was almost done trying hard to explain why he was thinking about another date then his voice became louder and the blush in his cheeks deeper, "Relationship as in a general word, I'm not saying that we are or we should be in a relationship. You will probably need a lot of time before getting over all the problems we have had and neither am I trying to force you into a relationship..."

"Hunter!" Mavis' hands grabbed his shoulders trying to stop him endless rant, "I would really like to go on another date with you!"

Hunter finally stopped and he beamed at her.

"You really want to?" he asked and Mavis nodded a bit too much.

Of course, she wanted another date. Of course, she wanted to be right beside Hunter and let him kiss her whenever he felt like.

And it seemed like Hunter was thinking about the same thing because his eyes went to her lips and he stared at them in deep thought for quite a while. Mavis felt giddy. What if he decided to kiss her just now? Maybe it wasn't too good of an idea but she wouldn't really mind it if he did.

They weren't in a proper relationship yet. It was too early and these were the first days they had actually spent liking each other and being conscious of it. All that made Mavis not want to make it public to people that they could actually end up together in fear that they were not close enough to withstand any attack that other people would offer. The number of girls and boys that would be appalled that Hunter would choose the girl he said he would never choose was too big for her to not worry.
