But Mavis didn't stop at that. The next day she planted bad smelling prank packages on his seat that almost stopped a whole class from going on. The day after she instructed Justin to sneak in dye inside Hunter's shampoo so he was sporting the brightest shade of red hair for a good week and of course he had to wear a hat every day.
Every day Mavis came up with an even worse prank and every day Hunter grew to hate her more but on no occasion did he seem like he was going to try to figure out why she was doing this.
On the other side, Mavis' hate for Hunter grew too, every time she saw Anne stay by his side and console him after every prank. It got to the point Mavis really wanted to make him suffer. And she spent afternoons coming up with ways to do so.
"Don't you think you are going a bit overboard?" Justin told her one afternoon as she explained to him the newest prank she was going to pull on Hunter. "What did he ever do to make you want to hurt him so badly?"
"He came into my life," she replied shortly annoyed.
Justin looked at her worried.
"Is this for Lillian?" he asked carefully, "I thought you got over it and have better friends right now."
Mavis got even more agitated at that. Yes sure, Kira was much better as a friend than Lillian had been and now that Alex had decided to be their friend even after Mavis' rejection, her school time had become much better. But that didn't mean Hunter hadn't pulled worse shit over her.
Before Mavis could start an argument with Justin (which she knew well she was going to regret later) she got a phone call from Mrs. Jensen which she had to reply.
"Hello," Mavis answered the phone immediately trying to avoid having to reply to Justin.
"Hi Mavis," Mrs. Jensen seemed worried on the other side of the phone, "I don't mean to bother you but can you take your phone to Hunter? I've been trying to reach him but his phone his off and I really need to talk to him."
Mavis considered saying no for a moment, but Mrs. Jensen seemed genuinely worried and although she could send Justin to him she thought maybe it was good to go and see what he was up too. Maybe she could find some other way of pissing him off.
"Give me a second Mrs. Jensen, I'll go and check right now."
And despite Justin's worried look, she went to her neighbor's house to check up on him.
Mavis knocked on the door for a while, as she felt herself become a little bit giddy. Outside of school and prank times, she hadn't really been in contact with Hunter much, and as much as she preferred to ignore it, meeting him had become something she almost looked forward too.
It really drove her crazy but she knew she would stop all she was doing if Hunter decided to talk to her again like he had talked to her the night of her birthday. Everything had escalated so quickly that those small moments almost seemed untrue.
When no one answered the door, Mavis pushed it open and entered on her own.
Going first for his manly room, Mavis heard him and his girlfriend there. She heard laughs and kissing noises and she stopped dead on her feet not knowing if she wanted to enter the room and see them on top of each other. It was already a lot to see them together in school.
Mavis chastised herself. She was doing it again, feeling bad that Anne and Hunter were together and she knew that wasn't a good sign. Mavis knew she couldn't feel bad because she didn't like Hunter and because Hunter could be with whoever he wanted to be.
Pushing the sadness away like she had been doing for more than a week now, she knocked on the door too let the two know she was there.
The moment Hunter saw Mavis, he groaned in frustration.
