"You suck!" Hunter yelled as he beat her at her own game. Again.

Justin and Cole laughed at her while Mavis just rolled her eyes.

"You cheated," she complained.

"Said every loser ever, of course."

They were all sitting outside on the lawn that separated their houses as they enjoyed the last summer rays before the good weather disappeared for a long time. The sun shone brightly and they had everything they wanted with them.

But she couldn't enjoy the sun.

She couldn't enjoy the happiness she got when they told her they had a day plan that included Mavis and Justin too.

"That scarf looks ugly on you darling. You should really learn how to combine stuff better," Mrs. Jensen interrupted them as she brought them snacks and drinks.

Mavis pulled the scarf even closer to the skin, uncomfortable with it.

Elijah's hand had left an obvious bruise all around her neck and the only way she had to not let anyone know was to cover it with an old silk scarf.

Hunter had already made fun of it, even tried to removed it a couple of times, but Mavis turned into a dangerous ninja each and every time he got close to her.

"Come on mom, you don't need to be rude." Hunter replied instead of Mavis, "The scarf is nice. It's her face that doesn't combine well."

Cole laughed while Mrs. Jensen glared at her son.

"Why are you even wearing it?! You don't have any hickeys you are hiding do you?!"

Mavis almost choked as she put her drink down immediately. Her face turned into a tomato in a matter of seconds by Mrs. Jensen's bluntness.

Justin made a gagging noise.

"She wished!" Hunter chuckled again but there wasn't as much spirit in it this time as if he too wasn't sure if she was hiding a secret relationship or not.

"No, come on! My throat has been hurting a bit lately due to weather changes so I thought warm drinks and a scarf should help me get over it before I develop a cold."

"But soda is not really a warm drink now, is it?! Just tell me if the guy is hot. That's all I want to know!"

Mrs. Jensen was embarrassing her for no reason!

"No, I swear I don't have hickeys!"

"Show us your neck then. Take the scarf off!" Hunter demanded.

Mavis flipped Hunter off just to fall prey to Mrs. Jensen's scary glares. She didn't care about Mrs. Jensen's glares or Hunter's dares. She had to hide the scars until they were gone and in the next two days, she had to find out who filed a report against Elijah and withdraw the report before he did something bad to her or to her family.

30 minutes later she got the message she had been waiting for since last night.

"I've got to go," she told the guys as she picked up her own trash.

"Where?!" Cole asked her as he took whatever leftovers she had.

"I'm going to meet the gig. We are planning a new project so I have to go and participate." she lied easily through her teeth.

"Even on the rare weekends, I come home and decide to spend time with you and my family?!"

He was accusing her again and she felt quite bad that it had to be this weekend that things decided to go south. But the pain in her throat hadn't left and she could still feel Elijah's strong hand pressing there. She could still feel his threatening eyes on her and she would rather disappoint her brother than have a lunatic after her family.
