"Maybe you should get yourself checked out since we are here," Mavis suggested as they sat down waiting for their number to be called.

Cole glared at her.

It wasn't Mavis' fault. Her brother was acting weird. She knew the last days before their mom passed away had really hurt Cole deeply, but having constant dreams and thinking she was in danger was not healthy.

How could a dead mom be sending dreams to her son to warn him about something that not even Mavis could notice?

It wasn't possible and as much as Mavis wanted to help her brother out, she didn't want to give more fuel to his hyperactive mind.

Mavis was okay.

The screen beeped and another number popped up. 214.

Mavis was next.

She wondered if there had been at least 214 people that had to come to the hospital because they weren't feeling well or because they were suffering. Mavis moved around in her chair. She really hated hospitals. They were uncomfortable, always sterile and always on the move. Some people moving in and some others moving out.

While growing up Mavis had done her best to stay away from hospitals, taking a lot of care to be as healthy as possible. Her dad had done his best to keep them safe so for the smallest of complaints he would always jump up and take them immediately to a doctor. Whenever Mavis had a problem, she made sure not to voice it out loud.

But she could also understand why both dad and Cole were so jumpy. They remembered how all of the sudden their mom had fallen ill and no one had seen it coming. All the small complains and the small pains had gone unnoticed until it was too late and she had reached stage 4 cancer. It had been a lost fight from the beginning. Even the doctors said that she had fallen prey to the worst kind of cancers that left no sign until it was too late.

Medullary thyroid cancer. That's how they had called it.

Mavis took a deep breath and leaned on her brother. One look at his face and she could tell he was thinking about mom too.

"It's okay," she whispered to him, "I am fine."

Before Cole could say something, their number popped up and they went to meet the doctor.

"So tell me, Mavis, what bothers you?!" the doctor asked once he opened her medical file.

"Well I've been having a bit of a cold lately," Mavis started not really knowing what to complain about.

"She has been having a cold for almost a month now. She is always tired and sleepy and who knows whatever else she hides." Cole interrupted her annoyed.

The doctor smiled.

"You have a good brother," he said calmly, "But he is right. You should tell me everything that you have found a bit weird or even just not comfortable lately."

Mavis nodded with a tight smile. She really didn't want to have to go through this. But just to get it over with, she thought for a moment or what had been annoying her.

"Well, yes. I haven't slept that well lately, but usually is because I have a lot of stuff in my mind. And I do wake up tired because I don't sleep a lot, plus I almost never exercise so I guess that also affects..."

"I asked for symptoms," the doctor interrupted her this time when he saw how irritated Cole got, "I will decide why they have shown up okay?"

Mavis nodded ashamed wondering if she had offended the doctor.

"Well, my neck hurts sometimes and I have had a throat pain for quite a while now. I can barely swallow at times unless I get medicine. And as I said, I've been tired and sometimes I have... you know, the emotional imbalance that happens during PMS but without the PMS."
