"Are you cold?" Hunter asked her, as he smiled.

His smile was genuine, and so sweet Mavis didn't feel like even answering to him. All she wanted was to look at him and to stretch this moment to a thousand ones.

"I guess your brain has frozen too," Hunter chuckled and she felt his jacket being put on her shoulders.

She felt warmer, but mostly because his arms were around her as he put the jacket on her.

"Sorry," she replied softly as she blushed lightly.

"I like it when you blush," Hunter said finding it amusing that it was so easy for him to make her blush like that.

There was silence between them, in which slowly Hunter's hand slipped into hers and both looked in front of them.

They were half sitting in front of Hunter's car, overlooking the city. The lights from the city and the stars from above made his hand feel even better into hers.

"What would you do if I was to go away?" Mavis asked after a while not knowing why she said just that.

"Why would you ask such a thing?" Hunter gave her another sweet smile, "It's not like we can ever go away from each other."

"I don't know. What if we were?"

Hunter looked into her eyes for a while trying to find the reason behind her question.

"I guess I'll have to come after you then," he said casually, making Mavis' cheeks warm up and her heart beat even faster.

Hunter let go of her hand and move to the side of the cliff on which they had parked the car.

"I like being with you," he said as he walked backward, "so why would I let you go?!"

Mavis' features turned up as a big smile covered her face. She followed him searching for his hand in the darkness.

"I like you too."

But instead of smiling back, Hunter's face morphed into a sneer.

"What did you do?" he asked urgently, feeling betrayed.

"What... what do you mean?!" Mavis tried to find his hand. It was suddenly too dark. There were no more shining stars and the city had seemed to disappear.

"Why?!" he asked as he found her hand and all of the sudden the ground beneath his feet disappeared and he was falling.

"Hunter!"

But he was gone and she couldn't even hear her own voice.

Scared, Mavis woke up.

Her heart was beating very fast, almost as if she had felt the pull before their hands had separated. She was sweating and she was barely able to control her erratic breathing.

With trembling hands, she got a hold of her phone from her nightstand and dialed Hunter's number.

It was stupid, but only when she heard his voice would she be sure he was okay. He was probably sleeping in his own room safe and sound. Mavis didn't know what time it was, but it was still dark outside, so that meant morning wasn't upon them yet.

"Hello?" Hunter responded on the other side his voice rough and sleepy.

"Hey Hunter, are you okay? Are you feeling all right?!" she asked without missing a beat.
