Wouldn't it be Nice - The Beach Boys
☀︎
My alarm clock blared the same old hum, awakening me from my slumber. I slammed it down, groggily getting out of bed and proceeding towards my closet to pick out an outfit to wear.
It was unusually bright outside. Annoyingly bright for it being 6:30 am. I kept my eyes squinted as they adjusted to the sudden amount of intense morning light.
Shuffling through my hanging clothes, I picked out a tight fitting deep green top. I paired that with my light washed jeans, tucking in the shirt. I then slipped on my shoes and grabbed my jacket, sitting down to brush my hair.
"BRANDY!!" Freddie called from downstairs, "ARE YOU ALMOST READY TO GO!?"
I yelled back at him, "GIVE ME JUST A MINUTE!"
I sat down my brush and slipped a hair tie on my wrist. Everyone needed a just in case hair tie.
I brushed on some mascara and rummaged around in my backpack for my lip bomb. Finally retrieving it, I applied my lip bomb and put it back in my backpack with the mess of graded schoolwork.
I swung my backpack over my shoulder and walked to the bathroom, brushing my teeth quickly and zooming down the stairs.
I grabbed a granola bar from the pantry and ran out the front door right as Freddie slammed his car door shut. I hopped into the front seat and smiled at him. My alarm woke me up precisely 4 minutes before Freddie left for school every morning. Just barely enough time for me to get ready and not have to take the bus.
Sure, I knew how to drive, but I didn't have a car. Mom said she'd get me one next year when Freddie was off at school and couldn't just drive me places.
"How was your date with Kenzie last night?" I asked my brother.
Freddie shrugged, "it was all right."
"How was hanging out with those boys yesterday?" he awkwardly asked, trying to make small talk.
"It was all right," I answered, copying his vague description.
We fell into a silence, neither of us awake enough to try and make a conversation. This was how it went most mornings.
We pulled in front of the school, and Freddie parked his car. I hopped out and said a quick goodbye to him before walking straight to Beverly.
"Hey Bevvy," I said.
"Hey Dee," Beverly responded.
I spotted Richie and Eddie from across the courtyard. The pair was standing with the rest of their friend group. Ben, Bill, and Stan. They called themselves The Losers Club. I'm not sure why. They weren't losers. I thought they were all pretty cool.
Eddie was looking right at me when I glanced over. Richie was too busy cracking a joke to the boys to notice. Eddie smiled and me and waved me over to them. I nodded at him and grabbed Beverly by the arm, pulling her over with me.
"Hey Beverly we're going to go talk to some people."
Beverly groaned, "who are you making me be fake nice to?"
I smirked at her, arriving in front of the boys.
I looked over at Beverly to see her awkwardly looking down.
"Hey guys!"
Stan looked up at us, smiled slightly, then looked back at his book. Only to look back up at the two of us with a great look of confusion on his face.
"What are you guys doing here?" Stan asked us.
Eddie kicked him slightly and Bev mumbled under her breathe, "I was wondering the same thing."
