The Joker - Steve Miller Band

Eddie's PoV

After school that day, I beat the shit out of the boy who tried to make Brandy kiss him. I got punched back a couple times, but it was worth it to make him feel like shit. He deserved a punch in the face.

I wished I would have been there. I wished I would have saved Brandy instead of this fucking bullshit Lucas person. Who the fuck even was Lucas? (a/n: long term commitment? eYe don't know her)

He was definitely new.

He showed up in the 6th period chem class after lunch. All the girls in my class started whispering about how he was hot almost immediately.

He seemed nice.

Too nice.

This had to be some bullshit set up to make me turn out with the short straw. Life couldn't just let me have Brandy, could it?

Stop it, Eddie. Brandy isn't an object. She doesn't belong to anyone but herself.

Lucas sat down next to me, and started working on his schoolwork. Of fucking course it had to be an attractive new boy that saved her. I would have rather it been fucking Stan!

"Hey. I'm Lucas." he had said to me.

The fucking nerve. He thought he could just talk to me after saving my girl from a traumatic experience?? Incorrect.

"Eddie," I mumbled back at him.

"It's nice to meet you Eddie," he said with a smile.

"It's nice to meet you, too, Prince Charming."

Lucas chuckled, "I guess I set you up for that one."

Yeah, asshole. You did.

He continued trying to make friendly conversation with me for the rest of the period, as Mr. Clarke really didn't have us doing work on the first day of the semester.

I answered him in as few words as possible.

Curse the seat next to mine being the only open spot in the room.

Lucas looked up at me, a confused expression on his face, "hey man, did I do something to offend you? I didn't mean to. Sorry if I crossed a boundary or something."

Suddenly it seemed to click in his mind.

"You were sitting next to Brandy at lunch today. She must have told you about-"

I nodded once.

"Are you two like a thing? I'm sorry I didn't mean to be a threat. Don't worry. I'll back off."

I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. He didn't know how thankful I was for him saying that. Gosh I could almost hug the big douche bag. But I didn't.

I nodded once, still looking forward.

"Thanks."

He nodded, smirking a little, looking back at the board.

"No problem."

When the bell rang, I pulled my bag onto my back and started walking towards the door in one swift movement.

"It was nice to meet you, Eddie!" Lucas called back to me.

I nodded at him in acknowledgment.

"Yeah. You too."

After I beat up that guy, I tried to find my friends.

They were talking in a small circle, laughing at something Richie had said.

Brandy looked so happy.

She was so cute when she was happy.

I jogged over to them, standing next to Brandy.

She smiled up at me, "hey Eddie!" she exclaimed.

The smell of her citrusy perfume wafted over me. Fuck had I ever even noticed how good she always smelled?

"Hey," I said back to her with a smile.

"And then I, with my quick wit, said 'Boardwalk Burgers? More like bored burgers because those burgers aren't having any fun!'"

Richie laughed at his own joke.

Everyone else rolled their eyes, including myself. Except Brandy.

She laughed so hard she grabbed onto my shoulder for support. She was allowed to grab onto me for support any day. Whenever Brandy touched me, butterflies were let loose in my stomach. Any time Brandy said anything butterflies were let loose in my stomach, so the touching thing wasn't much of a shock.

She had tears developing in her eyes as she calmed herself down, trying to stop laughing.

Richie had long since recovered from his own joke.

"Wow, Brand. It wasn't even that funny."

Brandy let out a big snort of laughter, breaking down into a laughing fit again.

Did she just- snort?

She tried to cover up her snort, but I wanted her to do it again. Holy shit how did she even make fucking pig sounds sound adorable?

I began to wheeze, swiftly grabbing my inhaler from my backpack and taking a puff. The whole deal was over before anyone even noticed it.

"It- wasn't- funny- bitchie! It- was- so- bad- I" Brandy tried to stammer out through more laughter.

She leaned her head on my shoulder, still laughing.

People were staring at us. Only a few stared during lunch, but I hid our hands extra well so none of them would see us holding hands.

We ended up holding them on my thigh. So to the outside world, it just looked like she had her hand on my thigh casually as a resting place.

Being completely honest, her hand was so close to me, I had to put a book in my lap to hide my special visitor.

Luckily, she hadn't noticed. At the time I was just happy she was okay and planning out how I was going to approach the douche bag that tried to make her kiss him.

It made me angry how guys just thought they could try and kiss her. She was too special for just casual kissing. She was too special for even this world.

Space Cowgirl.

That's what she was.

She had to be some kind of Space Cowgirl.

Roaming the stars with her wild wings.

Yes.

She wasn't meant for a world so cruel.

Brandy was supposed to be searching the stars with the other wild Space Cowgirls.
