You Can't Touch This - MC Hammer

The final school bell of the year rang and I walked out, excited for summer to begin.

I felt a tap on my back and turned to see Lucas.

"Oh hey, Lucas. What's up?"

The late May sun beat down on us as he smiled down at me.

"Uh, hey Brandy. I know this is really early in advance, but every time I ask you to go places with me, you already have plans, so I thought it would be better if I asked you in advance."

I was confused, "what?"

"Nevermind. I was just wondering if you wanted to go to the Fourth of July fireworks show with me?"

The fireworks show was about a month away. It was kind of really early in advance, but I enjoyed doing things with Lucas. He was a good friend.

Lucas paused for a moment before frantically adding another statement.

"As friends. Of course."

I nodded, already knowing that it was just as friends.

"Sure. That'll work fine."

"Great," Lucas said, a big smile on his face.

"Guys, tomorrow is the first day of summer," Richie began.

"You know what that means!"

"Annual quar-quarry trip!" Bill responded.

"Annual quarry trip?" I asked, confused.

"OH MY GOSH I HAVEN'T BEEN TO ONE OF THESE SINCE SEVENTH GRADE!" Beverly squealed.

"Do you think we should invite Brandy?" Richie asked, being jokingly serious.

"I don't know if we can trust her," Stan retorted sarcastically.

"Not funny guys," Eddie said.

He smiled at me, "of course Brandy is invited.

"Okay. So is it just a trip to the quarry you guys take once a year?"

They nodded, "we've been doing it since like fifth grade. Best day of the year. Bev even joined us one summer."

"The-the view was beautiful," Bill muttered.

Beverly lightly slapped his arm, earning a proud smirk from Bill.

"All right. I'll be there."

I waved goodbye to my friends and hopped into the passenger seat of Freddie's cherry red car.

"Hi, Brandy. How was your day?"

I smiled, "it went well. How was yours?"

"It was fine. I'm kind of sad high school is over. Oh, I also broke up with Kenzie."

"What!?" I exclaimed. Him and Kenzie were so in love not too long ago. Why would he break up with her?

Freddie shrugged, "I don't know. The relationship seemed... fake."

I sighed, "I'm sorry."

"It's fine. She's a cute girl and everything. I just..." he sighed, "I just don't want to waste my life with a girl who doesn't really love me. And she never loved me."

"Oh," I didn't know what to say.

"But you shouldn't have to worry about me. It's my job to worry about you."
