1999 - Prince

☀︎

We walked in through the front door and I let go of Eddie's hand. Almost the whole school was here, and almost everyone was drunk.

Of course I expected this, but apparently Eddie didn't.

"Are they going to offer me fucking alcohol!?" Eddie yelled to me over the loud music. His eyes were wide with fear.

I shot him a smile and giggled, "no! But you can get some if you'd like!"

He shook his head aggressively, causing me to laugh.

I walked over to the punch, which was obviously spiked, and ladled myself out some into a red solo cup.

Eddie grabbed my wrist as I started to raise the cup up to my mouth, "I'm not baby sitting you if you get drunk, Brandy!" he yelled. His hand was strong. Stronger than I would have expected. Just like it was warmer than I would have expected earlier.

I smirked at him, "you should get some of the non-alcoholic punch. It's sitting on that table."

I pointed to a table with a hand written sign that said 'NO ALCOHOL'

Eddie shrugged and poured himself a red solo cup.

"Cheers!" Eddie shouted over the music. We both downed our cups.

Eddie's eyes widened, "wow! That was really fucking good punch! I want more!"

I rolled my eyes at him, shaking my head with a smile.

"Hey Brandy!" a voice said from behind me.

I turned around to see a boy I didn't recognize.

I smiled kindly at him, "hello. Do I know you?"

He shook his head, chuckling nervously, "apparently not!"

"Well, uh, nice to meet you..." I waited for him to tell me his name.

"I'm Joey. Joey Smith.

I smiled at Joey, "Well it's nice to meet you, Joey Smith."

A goofy grin spread on Joey's face, "uh, Brandy, would you maybe want to dance with me?"

I turned and looked at Eddie, who was helping himself to some more punch. I think maybe someone spiked the alcohol-free punch, too. I couldn't just leave him.

"I'm sorry. I'm here with my friend and I can't leave him."

Joey nodded, leaning back against the wall, "this friend. Is he just a friend to you? Or is he more?"

I smiled back at him, "no. He's just a friend. I'm not into him like that."

Joey ran a hand through his mullet, probably trying to look cool.

"Well would you mind if I stayed with you two? A pretty thing like you needs someone more than a friend to keep them safe at a party like this," Joey smirked. He bit his lip, studying my figure up and down.

I stood tall, furrowing my eyebrows, "I don't need a teenage boy to protect me at a petty high school party. I can fucking protect myself, thank you very much. Now, you seemed very nice until you implied that I was weak. But since you obviously think yourself dominate to me, this would never work out. Kindly fuck off now, Joey."

I turned on my heal and walked swiftly over to the punch table where Eddie was.

He smiled up at me, "hey Brandy!"

I looked at him, a smile on my face, "Hi Eds. I think someone spiked that punch, too."

Eddie nodded, looking dazed, "I think so too."
