American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
☀︎
I whirled back around, crawling back inside my window.
Grabbing my ice skates, I jogged back towards my window. I climbed out and shimmied down the tree.
It had been a while since I'd gone on an adventure.
It was Monday, and Mother never bothered me on Mondays. I had all the time in the world.
I zipped up my coat, jogging in the cold air to try and warm myself up. I kept a fairly steady pace as I jogged towards Bev's house.
She didn't live very far away; I was there in no time at all.
I walked around to the back of her house, knocking on her window.
Beverly looked through, a puzzled look on her face. She opened the window to the bitter cold air, looking down at me.
"Brandy? What are you doing here?"
I smirked, "when was the last time we had fun? Just the two of us?"
Beverly smiled, "I can't even remember anymore."
"Well," I held my skates up so she could see them, "I have an idea."
"I love your brain!" Beverly gushed, a wide smile spreading across her freckles face. She rushed to her closet, getting her ice skates.
"Me too!" I said back narcissistically.
Bev rolled her eyes with a smirk and jogged to her bedroom window, climbing out of it.
Beverley's aunt wasn't home that night. She was out of town on a business trip, but there wasn't a problem with that. Bev liked being home alone. She just liked being with her friends more.
I giggled and grabbed Beverly's hand, dragging her along behind me. She laughed alongside me, her breath visible in the cold winter air.
We arrived at the Quarry. It was completely iced over.
I pulled on my skates, lacing them up.
"Did you hear what Jessie said?" Bev asked.
"Jessie Asher or Jessie Taylor?" I asked her.
"Jessie Asher."
I shook my head, "what did she say?"
"Richie was talking to her, and somehow or another she ended up calling him Bitchie."
I gasped, "the nerve! She should know that's my thing." I said over dramatically, being sarcastic.
Beverly giggled, lacing up her ice skates the rest of the way and standing up.
"Well I wasn't done! Long story short, Richie told her she wasn't allowed to call him that and she ended up slapping him."
I laughed openly, "I like Jessie. She's powerful. We should hang out with her sometime."
Bev nodded, helping me onto my feet.
"We definitely should."
The two of us skated around for about an hour. Joking and laughing. I loved being with Bev. She was my best girl friend. We really should have hung out more without the guys around.
"Who do we have here?" A voice called from behind us.
I was on the ice in a fit of laughter. I had just pushed Bev over, but she pulled me down with her, so we were both on the floor.
