Just What I Needed - The Cars

☀︎

My eyes fluttered open as I felt the golden sun hitting my face. I yawned and stretched, feeling cozy in my bed.

Shit.

It was Tuesday.

I needed to be at school!

I was late!

I tried to sit up, but suddenly felt a throbbing headache.

I groaned, closing my eyes and rubbing my temple.

"Take the aspirin," said a voice, "they will help."

I jumped, startled.

"What the fuck," I said sleepily.

I opened up my eyes once more to see Eddie sitting in a chair next to my bed. Except this wasn't my bed.

"Where the fuck am I?" I asked.

"My house," Eddie replied flatly.

"I-I need to be at school," I responded, trying to get out of bed.

Outside of the covers were cold. I pulled my leg back in.

Memories of the night before flooded back to me.

Shit.

I was still in my fucking underwear.

My cheeks heated up as I drew the covers closer into my chest, trying to hide myself. Even though I was sure Eddie had to have seen me to bring me to his bed.

"Oh my gosh I never went home last night. Fuck. Freddie will kill me."

Eddie smiled down at me sympathetically, "I couldn't just take you home unconscious. He'd ask questions.

I nodded, taking two aspirin and washing them down with water.

"Eddie?" I asked him.

"Yeah?"

"C-can I uh- have some clothes to wear?"

Eddie turned bright scarlet, looking everywhere except at me. He nodded.

"Your shirt got really muddy when you uh- took it off, so I put it in the wash."

I nodded, "that's fine. Can I just wear one of your shirts or something?"

I tried to sound calm asking the question, but my heart was racing. What if he said no? What if I was crossing the boundary line into territory he didn't want me on? I feared he would say no because wearing clothes was a 'girlfriend thing'.

But he didn't.

"Of course!" he said almost instantly, rushing his words. Once he had said it, he seemed to be scolding himself in his head for something. I wondered what.

"Thanks. Can I just pick something out?"

Eddie nodded, looking scattered. He jogged to his closet, opening it to display his hanging clothes.

He stood there.

"Uh... would you mind leaving?"

Eddie nodded frantically, rushing to leave his room and closing the door behind him.

A light blush crept up my neck because of how cute and awkward he was.

Who would have known I would ever end up falling for a total dork? Not me. I thought I'd end up with a football player or something, but who didn't think that as a child?
